Absolutely and unreservedly! It's still the best Chinese drama for me. It's quite different from TLB and focuses…
Yes, definitely give it a try. It's a much slower pace, but more of a mental chess game. Really smart writing. It is based on a best selling novel. I think you will definitely love Joy of Life if you haven't watched that yet. Just prepared to wait for seasons 2, 3 and 4 though :(.

Can we get some love for Hao Du and Le Yan!! They both had such great growth, such well rounded characters!https://youtu.be/wTfAheGetdE
There are plenty of us here who gush over HaoYan! We love HaoYan and that is a very good tribute video of Hao Du.

I can't believe they did not have like a virtual fanmeeting or concert to successfully end this drama. I miss…
Probably scheduling conflicts. They all seem quite busy with their own itineraries.

That bored and a lot of other words bugged me! Viu subtitles are great in that Matter still.

For those who download the raw episodes, I’ve posted MTL soft subs for E43-44 on subscene. I’ve gone through…
Where please? What are subscenes?
Replying to MK916 May 7, 2021
Will the sub release be 2 episodes each M-W? Then episode 49 will be the following Monday 5/17?
That would be consistent with how they have released episodes for past dramas. They never release extra episodes just because it's only one left to end the show- they release the one or two pending episodes only the following week per schedule.

Not related but for those who are finished watching or still waiting for the next episodes like me, you can watch…
Yes, I’m enjoying it. FL is very cute and smart.

Yes, it's slow in the early episodes but the story definitely picks up and you won't be able to put it away. I dropped it after the first episode and a few months later picked it up again and I binged it in 3 days.

Yes, its still my top drama and the only one so far that I will use the word masterpiece for. I would say that…
NIF is like a 50 episode Go game!

Have you watched My Heroic Husband? Many cast members from JOL and same production team. Not nearly as good as JOL but something to keep you entertained while waiting for JOL 2.

Leo still young here right?
I'm sorry. I know Leo has grown up so well and become an impressive man. But to me, he will forever be little Fei Liu.

I binge watched NIF in 3 days. Binge watched JOL in 2 days. Binge watched Story of Minglan in 5 days LOL. C-dramas helped me get through the lockdowns during the pandemic.

Agggh, I'm dying for Joy of Life season 2. I don't know if I have the patience to wait for seasons 3 and 4 after that. Will that happen in our lifetimes lol?

yep definitely glad that they didn't go that route.. one of the saving graces of his character.
I enjoyed it. I rarely finish watching C-dramas, but I actually watched the entirety of Eternal Love 1 and 2. Not the best written plot or well made drama, but it entertained me. I also really liked Xing Zhao Lin in it.

Question: Would y'all recommend Nirvana on Fire?
Absolutely and unreservedly! It's still the best Chinese drama for me. It's quite different from TLB and focuses more on political maneuverings. Not a romance focused story. The story builds up from the beginning, so just be a little patient in the beginning as it may seem a little slow at first. Such a worthy drama in terms of story, acting, cinematography. It set a very high bar for Chinese dramas since and I think not many have lived up to its standard. It's ruined all Chinese dramas for me because it was my introduction to Chinese dramas and nothing has lived up to expectations Nirvana in Fire set for me. Sadly, not even TLB.

I'd rather ask, where were hundreds of noble Tang warriors... :D That friend of Crown Prince was weird plot choice.Leyan…
Chinese drama logic. In other words, try to leave yours at the door before watching lol.

Title The Long Ballad Spoiler
Yeah, they didn't explain that very clearly. I think it's because Hao Du knew that Leyan likes Shu Yu and he didn't…
I think Shu Yu knew that for sure. The drama doesn't address the question of whether he refused to fight for Leyan because he knew that and wanted to give Hao Du the chance or he was just being himself. But then, if he knew Hao Du liked Leyan and wanted to leave the way for Hao Du, the right thing would have been to tell him to go fight for her. That would have redeemed him in a lot of HaoYan fans' eyes :).

Title The Long Ballad Spoiler
uh why didn't anyone think of letting haodu fight before? Is it because of his status? or maybe the writers just…
Yeah, they didn't explain that very clearly. I think it's because Hao Du knew that Leyan likes Shu Yu and he didn't want to step in. Plus, when you read between the lines with the conversation with his father, it seems Hao Du's sense of inferiority didn't allow him to believe he even deserved to fight since the ultimate prize would be marriage to the princess. Given his low status (until he was later formerly adopted by Du Ruhui), he didn't think he qualified to fight on behalf of the princess. It took his father's encouragement to do so- when he said, fight for Tang, but you should also fight for yourself. So he didn't take a chance on himself until the very end, when things were so dire he figured it was better him fight than Leyan being sent on a marriage to the grasslands she didn't want. Hao Du talks about that in his post-fight conversation with Leyan. This is why also mid-fight when he was winning, he sees Shu Yu and starts losing the fight- his self doubts came in when he saw Shu Yu and got distracted.
