Objectively, I would rate it lower, but subjectively, I would rate it higher. I enjoyed and had fun watching the show, which always saves a series from me overly criticizing it. War as Joke changed my life. The acting was overall pretty good, especially compared to other BLs (Grandma and Toi Ting the Goats).

I liked the overall story and the themes the show was trying to explore, and the cinematography and production were really well done and I really respect YinWar for the amount of work and sacrifices they put in this show . I did have to turn off my brain while watching, though, because the amount of plot holes and illogical moments would have made me drop the show early on. Still, other aspects made it enjoyable enough for me to continue.

Some serious themes were either oversimplified or presented mainly to push the plot forward, and I wish some characters had been more developed or better written overall.

I love a good slow burn and I did enjoy the romance in this show; however, it could have used more build-up and more moments before the characters ended up together maybe more lingering looks, tension, or yearning in general. That said, it wasn’t that bad.

Honestly, I understand both the people who would give this show a 4 and those who would give it a 10 but in the end, I had fun.
