Just caught up with this. The one thing I don't understand is why Petch had to hide the fact that she was a girl.…
Just finished and I still think the first half was stronger than the second half. Despite me complaining about Petch taking so long to reveal she was a girl, I almost wish she would have continued pretending. Once she revealed herself, Petch and Nadon for some odd reason wouldn't confess to liking each other. If that had lasted for an episode or two, I wouldn't have been bothered by it, but it continues on till the very last episode. It was very frustrating to watch.

Overall, I still enjoyed it. If they had trimmed a few episodes it would have been better.

I'm not going to lie. I'm still salty that Bella and James are not a pairing in this. But I'm still somewhat curious about it. Anyone watching it?

Title Nakark Kaew Spoiler
This was very entertaining. It goes from romantic drama to mystery/horror show in the second half. But in all honesty, I was more intrigued by the mystery and thriller of the story than the romantic aspect of it. Dada and Ratt were cute together but I would have liked to see more development between them. I get that Lookaew cheated on him, but despite her horrible personality, he loved her. That meant he had to like Lookaew's ways that other people hated. It would have been nice to see him struggle between loving two people who were completely different. But once he finds out Dada's true identity, he just accepts it and doesn't think twice about it.

The MVP of this show was Ratt's dad. He was awesome. I'm so used to seeing the parents either be idiots or assholes, so it was nice to see a parent who was wholeheartedly on his son's side. Plus, it was fun to see him play detective with Ratt.

The most interesting thing about this show was Rachawadee, or in this case, Namthip. I like how they kind of trick you with the title by making you think it's in reference to Dada, but it's also for Namthip as well. I was always trying to figure out why Rachawadee was so coldhearted. She even tried to kill her own daughter. It was interesting to see how far she would go. She truly was the worst.

I also thought Dr. Goson was terrible and I didn't feel any sympathy for him. Why are you messing with this crazy ass bitch? There isn't enough love in the world that would allow me to be with someone as crazy as her. It also kind of annoyed me that everyone was so willing to forgive Namthip in the end like she didn't kill a bunch of people.

And though sometimes I had to side eye Natt's acting, I did think she did a good job at making Dada and Lookaew different. It wasn't just the different personalities of one being good and the other evil, but she even sounded different.

Overall, a fun entertaining watch.

Title Nang Ai Spoiler
Just rewatched this and I must say I look at their relationship a little bit differently now. Majority of the time, Thip acts like a father reprimanding Nang on every single thing she does. The problem is that even when they start to date, that dynamic of their relationship doesn't change. So, it feels weird and almost like she's dating a father figure.

I also couldn't understand why Nang's father was so upset. If it was because of the age difference, then I would understand. But Nang's father is trying to marry her off to someone who is practically the same age Thip. He was so adamant about it, but it seems like it was the only storyline they could come up with to cause drama in the final episodes.

I found Nicha's portrayal of Nang to be weird. She's supposed to be 17 but sometimes it feels like she's acting like a 10-year-old. She was extremely childish.

The drama is cute enough, though I think it's pretty skip-worthy because the school stuff isn't interesting. The romance is handled well enough compared to the previous version where Thip (Johnny) falls in love with Nang immediately and it's weird. At least in this version, Thip falls in love with her unknowingly and waits for her to graduate to pursue her.

Title Pachara Montra Spoiler
Just caught up with this. The one thing I don't understand is why Petch had to hide the fact that she was a girl. There is even a point when Athit asks her and she doesn't respond and at that point, I think the writers didn't even know why Petch was hiding her gender.

EDIT:
*Palms Face* I just realized the father probably didn't want people to know Petch was the daughter of the doctor. Was that the reason? Lol. This is what happens when you casually skip.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I also think the conflict between them right now is stupid. Nadon finds out she's a girl and he's happy. All is revealed and there is no consequence to it because there was no real reason to hide that she was a girl in the first place other than having it as a fun plot device-- which by the way, it is fun. I've always loved the cross-dressing trope when done right. There are some hilarious moments and I really liked the lakorn in the beginning when they were in the forest, before the annoying family drama. By the way, Nadon's father is an asshole.

Right now, it's kind of annoying seeing Nadon and Petch create distance with each other for no good reason. It's clear that they both want to be more than friends so it's kind of annoying seeing Nadon be a dick to Petch every five minutes. Just say that you like her and you want more. To be honest, I still wish she was pretending to be a boy. Other than that, it's still a pretty cool lakorn.

Title Duang Jai Nai Fai Nhao Spoiler
When I first saw the poster for this lakorn, I was excited. It reminded me of some of Weir’s lakorns where he takes revenge by being this super charming playboy tricking everyone around him. Unfortunately, this synopsis is misleading because James’ character isn’t really taking revenge on anyone. Throughout the lakorn, he’s just trying to find evidence to see what happened to his parents who died in a fire.

The best thing about this lakorn is the female lead. Gina did a great job and I look forward to seeing her in future projects. I especially enjoyed the route her character went in the latter half of the series. I also enjoyed the chemistry between James and Gina.

Unfortunately, that’s where my enjoyment ends. I found this lakorn to be a bit jarring because it’s all over the place. Tonally it’s a mess. The character Yiemyuth is the best example of this. He’s supposed to be a playboy, but he's also a tortured soul, a goofball, and a money guru. That would all be fine but sometimes I thought I was watching three different lakorns. When Yiemyuth would turn into the goofy character and help Dao Nuer’s parents, it felt like I was watching a rom-com about a rich male lead teaching the poor female lead how to handle money. When he was the tortured soul, it felt like I was watching a melodrama especially with that dramatic opening credit where he’s screaming in pain. I almost feel like the poster was a sham because Yiemyuth isn’t really a playboy character at all. I thought Dao Nuer did a better job of using flirtation for revenge than he did.

I think my overall problem was that the story wasn’t good. I was bored by the mystery of what happened to Yiemyuth’s parents. Sometimes things got way too ridiculous and over dramatic like when he thought Dao Nuer was his sister. That was laughable. There was only three episodes left and they resolved that problem within the same episode. Were we really supposed to think they were siblings? And when Yiemyuth was jealous of Willy, I’m like am I supposed to take this seriously? I love jealously in lakorns. It’s the best part but I could never take Yiemyuth’s jealously seriously because Willy looked old enough to be Dao Nuer’s father. And even if he was supposed to be the second male lead they had no chemistry whatsoever.

I will say this got significantly better in its second half when Dao Nuer started to work with Frank. I liked seeing her get revenge. Honestly, this drama would have been better if the plot had been about her getting revenge on Pinmook in the first place. The push and pull game she was playing with Yiemyuth was fun.

There were some enjoyable things about the lakorn, but overall it was disappointing.

Thanks so much for your comment! :)

I totally agree with you on She Was Pretty. It was really hard for me to like the male lead because he was such an ass to her. I knew Shin Hyuk wasn't going to get the girl but he definitely deserved her compared to the male lead.

With Addicted Heroin, Gu Hai actually starts off doing the Wiggle Method. He's aggressive but overall harmless (well, maybe not harmless) because he's trying to take the approach as a friend though it's clear that he is super obsessed with Bai Luo Yin. Then after Bai Luo Yin had tried to cut off their friendship, he just bypassed the Wiggle Method and went straight for the Bulldoze Method. There are definitely levels of the Bulldoze Method. On one hand you have the not too aggressive way which is like Devil Beside You, and on the other hand you have the beyond aggressive way like Addicted Heroin where someone should have called the police but they were too in love to realize it.

I'm just sad that we'll never get a season 2 because Johnny and Xu Wei Zhou had so much chemistry together.

Really amazing and well written article, can't wait for the female version. Also, out of the dramas you mentioned…
Thank you so much for your comment! And no problem! Most of the dramas I listed up here are some of my favorites or ones that I really enjoyed.

Here's a list of my top 10 from this article. It's not listed in a particular order though.

1. Biscuit Teacher Star Candy (This is listed under other examples for method #1 but it's one of my favorites. Gong Yoo is great in this. It's a bit dated though.)
2. Long Vacation (This is very simplistic but oh so good and one of my favorites!)
3. Pride (Great drama! More on the mature side.)
4. Que Sera, Sera (This isn't loved by many because it's not romantic in the way Korean dramas usually are, but honestly that's why I love it.)
5. Coffee Prince (Very great drama! Once again, Gong Yoo is great!)
6. Kill Me, Heal Me (Super fun and Ji Sung is amazing in this!)
7. Devil Beside You (I'm a sucker for forbidden romance. This is a bit dated though. Actually, it's extremely dated. If you manage to get past the bobby pins in Mike He's hair, you'll love it.)
8. Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge (Fun, hilarious, and sweet. If you like a reverse harem, then you'll like this.)
9. In a Good Way (Refreshing with a genuinely nice male lead. The romance is very sweet too! )
10. Queen of Reversals (This is long, but a great watch. Fun office romance.)

I will also add that Last Cinderella and Todome no Kiss are really good as well. I hope you find something that you'll enjoy on this list! :)

Thank you so much for your comment! I really appreciate it! :)

I tried to make sure this list had variety and was actually reflective of what people watch because I know everyone on MDL doesn't just watch Korean dramas. Personally, I watch a lot of dramas from different countries so I wanted that to be able to show. Besides, both Pride and Long Vacation are my favorites too! I couldn't leave them off this list.

Thanks for reading the article and I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

I must also agree with you and say that most of these methods wouldn't work in real life considering that most dramas' portrayal of love isn't really realistic. Take Hana Yori Dango for example. It's fun to watch Makino fall in love with Domyoji, but in real life most girls would not fall for someone who practically bullies them into a relationship. People know the difference between the fantasy romance in dramas versus love in real life. Well, I hope they do.

By the way, out of all of these you think the second method is not that bad?
