I honestly did enjoy this show (I gave it an 8/10) but I also felt enraged about the fact that they redeemed Noh Tae-Nam. It was very hard for me to have any empathy for the trauma they showed him going through in the past as well as the trauma he experiences in his service due to what he did to Sena. I also disliked that they made the FL look like a girl's girl at the start and then we completely get rid of Sena and none of the characters seem to care at all about her trauma or having Noh Tae-Nam punished. If anything, he is almost shown as this "healed" character who has repented deeply. Needless to say, I wasn't surprised to hear a man wrote this show...
I also agree with the point about the prosthetic leg but I think the point was more so to show the extent to which Noh Hwa-Young was capable of going to for her own power. I just wish they showed her relationship with the FL's father (since it seemed like she was insinuated to be Woo-In's mother??) instead of hinting at us and then just throwing it away. I think it would've been right to show her as someone that could kill the father of her child (possibly children, if Tae-Nam was full siblings with Woo-In), because then it would make it even more sickening that she could order someone to kill Woo-In (her own daughter). Because nothing comes above herself.
Sorry for all the words ahaha! I have lots of feelings after finishing this show!
In the last episode Noh Hwa Young is sentenced to death. Then after the one year time skip she's still a prisoner…
I thought so too. I was also very displeased that they redeemed Noh Tae Man and didn't show him being punished for raping Sena. Sure he repented for power tripping and other things, but he never properly made it up to Sena.
Love seeing SKJ again, such a good actor but not the best at picking good scripts. Hopefully this project will do really well, I'd love to see him get some more recognition.
The Song Kang part was real. Some scenes felt forced awkward to the point of hurting my soul.
I really don't want to be too harsh on any of the actors, but personally he's not my cup of tea. Even with this past weekend's episodes 13 & 14, I was just waiting for the episodes to be over.
Maybe it's just me, but if they cut the romance & had made this into a 2-ish hour long movie instead I think it would've been recieved way better. + PSJ's acting is weak in this, he gives off too much of a modern vibe instead of a character that lived in that era.
Is 4 years of age difference really counted as an age gap. Isn't that normal?
Not when both are at similar points in life and there is not an imbalance. But between a minor and an adult, which is where the characters were when I wrote this review, there's definitely a power imbalance. I liked the refreshing take on consent and a non-creepy male lead, where some dramas definitely have that vibe.
