A masterpiece indeed
I rarely write reviews but after watching this drama, I couldn't stop myself from expressing my opinion. The story is well done and if you watched all The Lost Tomb series which were set in the same universe, you can observe many elements that connects all of the series very well. Like the Three Bronze fishes.
Another thing I noticed that connects the Legend of Zang Hai with other Lost Tomb series is, In the starting episodes, if we notice the empress's coffin, there is a pattern like a star constellation. The stars represent the tombs visited by Wu Xie which were shown in the Lost Tomb series which were in the shape of a dragon vein. Some of these tombs were The Seven star Lu palace, Southern sea tomb, The heavenly palace in the clouds etc.
From the other Lost Tomb series, we also find that the three bronze fishes were kept in different tombs by Zang Hai. Although we didn't see it in the series, I guess, after he left the capital, he must have kept himself busy with building tombs and hiding the fishes and the seal so that no one would find them again.
Overall I find the story to be quite great and it's worth the wait. No one could've portrayed the character Zang Hai better than Xiao Zhan. And I find no other actor worthy to play Zang Hai because Zang Hai's character is complex with multiple layers. He is smart, cunning, calculated and manipulative with a silver tongue. But he was also equally kind, caring and couldn't bear innocent people dying. It kinda reminded me of Wei Wuxian.
Throughout the series I kept comparing Zang Hai and Wei Wuxian. They are similar yet different. The series is intriguing and so wholesome if you like watching series about revenge and political power play. The plot twists are amazing.
Totally loved it, and I suddenly want to start rewatching the whole Lost Tomb series again just so I could come up with more theories.
The only thing that I felt a bit disappointed was that they didn't show Zang Hai hiding the bronze fishes in the tombs. I hoped it would have a few more episodes to show how he led his life. Maybe it was left for our imagination. Although it was mentioned in the other series, I really wanted to see it in action. But it was good.
