one of the GEM in kdrama

This is NOT a rom com. So if you want to hear 좋아해e요 or watch ML (most of the times) unexpectedly kiss FL and FL is not even supposed to raise her hands to kiss back (or slap the hell out of him), but just stand there as though receiving the most amazing gift she has ever received by the grace of a man, look elsewhere.

If not, read on:

I watched Newtopia when I was on I last drops of kdrama love (After that I ran out and still waiting for refill).

But I LOVED newtopia. The synergy between actors, story writers and director is amazing. Even if it's Ji Soo who is supposed to be one of the most prominent idol at the time (even now?) she does not care about looking good in every single shot or sounding great. In fact whenever her voice became little bit hoarse I enjoyed those scenes most because that was her shot; she owned it.

Story writers were brave enough to concentrate on characters as they would behave in absurd situations. If you look at it, there isn't much different going on compared to other zombie apocalypse movies\tv series. But they made it different. It feels different. And although I think they knew this might become hit but fanboys/girls would never say "좋아해요", they didn't care.

Director focused on characters not on visual appeal. It was uncomfortable for some (many?) to watch it he stayed honest. I think he knew he would not get typical 16 episodes or rather he knew he should not have typical 16 episodes. But he made them count.

Kudos to them!

*Of course* where every kdrama ratings start with 7 on IMDB this one has 6.6 because.. read the first line. But I hope kdrama becomes braver and follow suit.

I hope we can come up with "kdrama for lovesick/looksick" tag so that there is no confusion between work of art and trope filled entertainment.
