Zee and Nunew recently appeared on Woody FM (he's a great interviewer, very respectful and not fan service-y at all) and when talking, Woody asks them can the word 'couple' be used to describe their personal relationship together, and they both said yes! a very lovely moment and wholesome interview
This was a good episode, but they're trying to have it both ways. It's incongruous to have a strong statement…
I think that they managed to show LGBT rights in a show that followed the BL formula isn’t an attempt to have it both ways, instead I’d praise them for using the BL trope (a popular media form) to broadcast radical anti-capitalist and pro-queer agendas
This is one of the best dramas I've seen in a long while - emotionally and visually so compelling, held my breath all the way through the final episode. This show will make you feel so strongly about the characters and it's so well acted and produced that I was really captivated by the story the whole time. Also it's just such a realistic portrayal of complex relationships, emotions, and the obsessive tendencies we have as humans when we like people, which all come together so beautifully with the settings, lighting, and camera work in the show. I just felt emotionally connected to it.
I think this show is a very realistic portrayal of navigating sexuality and social pressure in youth. Yes, there are toxic elements within both characters at the centre, but to expect a perfect relationship to develop between them would take away from the beauty of how complicated queer relationships can be, and the beauty in these complications that are shown in the series through the cinematography and lighting etc. When can we say that we engage in perfect relationships in our lives? I think the problems we find with the characters (Hira's worshipping tendencies, Kiyoi's harshness, etc.) are very real to young people who would be figuring out their sexualities in various societal settings and under lots of social pressure. This time for them is complicated, and so it should be shown as complicated in the series - this is what makes it realistic, and it's realness is what makes it beautiful.
So complex and emotional right until the end - I wish there had been more of a chance to dig deeper into the relationships with the other characters (like Jai and Q) and with flashing through everyone at the very end of ep 5 some parts felt a little unfinished. More episodes would have meant less time jumps too, or just more of a chance to understand the developments within the time jumps at least. Despite this, I still felt the tension and emotions alongside all of the characters whilst watching - the production level is so high, the cinematography and music just enhances everything.
ITSAY stands as this very pure love story about realising things about yourself and how you love, and I think IPYTM did actually a really good job of maturing that but still keeping the emotional weight of the first season. The story and characters will stay with me for sure.
I think what you've said is really thought out and poignant but I actually think that Jai also feels the same…
True from reading your discussions above I get what you mean but I do think there is a deeper layer to everything in this show and that’s why it’s so good! I wish it hadn’t been limited to just 5 eps also so that they could explore all of The relationships so much more - especially Jai and Q’s characters independently.
I'm so entranced every episode by the emotions and range showed by all of the actors, combined with such an emotional musical soundtrack in the background of all the scenes - I feel so tense watching it and like i'm feeling everything alongside the characters! Also there is so so much to unpack with every character, and especially the Teh/Jai relationship - this is beyond a typical BL show it's honestly just art at this point.
This is written so well and realistically, but GODDAMMIT, I DO NOT WANT THEM TO BREAK UP.It is so very realistic…
I think what you've said is really thought out and poignant but I actually think that Jai also feels the same way towards Teh but doesn't want to admit to it because of how it would affect Teh/Oh - I think he doesn't manage that well tbf and is also stuck in this in between of longing and trying to have control in order to keep his walls up - as is expected from this show every character is so complex and I think has so many layers of interpretation to them. I'm literally hooked on all of their emotions every episode.
Exactly my point.. it is quite real and many people don't like it because they want escapism over realism(which…
it's so real! and this makes me love it more because I feel like I feel every emotion that the characters are feeling - I honestly could go on and on about how much of a masterpiece this show is
something about the ending with the view of Gene and Nubsib together at the restaurant table I find just so memorable and such a beautiful final ending to our watching of their relationship!! having seen them grow as a couple and now go on to last - and how it's Gene who looks over, his growth in confidence and love is just so beautiful and it's so nice to see him happy at the end
This series is so self-aware and intelligently written and the final ep + ending shows this !!! a beautiful ending to a story that is actually a realistic portrayal of queer love and doesn't fall into the tropes we see in other series, instead it's aware of these tropes and its navigation of them actually informs the story. The main couple might have their communication problems but it doesn't make their story any less impactful and just lovely (pun not intended) - one of my favourite shows ever
