Compared to the book, XiaoBao is much more innocent than his original., who always tried to top Huaien, haha.
Blooming Flowers, Silent Sorrow is a typical crematorium book and NOT the most drastic one. The series is a very softened version of the events in the book. Besides, it is an older danmei - from 2010, and the standars of writing were different then, it was pre-censorship time. Many papapa scenes are already cut in the series, like the happy activities time in the cave, or in the carriage. Who exactly taught who at the first time is also smoothed out (In the book, XiaoBao was 20 and he was a well known visitor to the brothels since 13, and Huaien was 15, virgin and smaller than him, so guess!) .
I really cannot understand any complaints, really. This is first period drama with a male/male relationship, and it is much more softer than the original, and the boys are pretty. For me, it is more than fine :)
