Understanding needs no words...
Don't watch this one in a hurry, this drama requires one to take a seat back and relax to truly understand it.
I love these kind of dramas which focus more on creating an overall atmosphere than momentary attention baits. More emotions are conveyed through character expressions than dialogues or events.
A stroll through starry night on crowded streets with reluctant gazes and awkward gestures becomes a memorable moment with just a single spontaneous action. A silent acknowledgement to other's sadness creates a deeper bond of understanding than any words said altogether.
So, yes, direction was amazing, so was cinematography and so was acting. All this combined with that beautiful OST created a perfect cinematic masterpiece. And some scenes are absolute gems with a lot deeper meaning. Like we have that one scene where you have two window panes in a single frame. If you look at it closely, one is a window to his past keeping him contained in same circle of despair while the other is a window showing a way to liberation. He drags his feet from his past towards his future where his liberation ("she") grabs his hands and brings him out.
This level of direction is rarely seen, and that's why I said, sit back, relax and let the drama pull you in.
Still we do have some problems too...some big... some small...and some quite annoying tbh...
First, drama dragged a lot after episode 12. I loved the slow and relaxed nature of storytelling in start but very very little happens in episode 14-16.
Second, the ending was good but not satisfactory enough. It could have been much longer and better placed.
And third, drama in later parts falls into same cliches that most kdramas suffer from. This is almost becoming a pattern now.
Up to episode 12 this was 9/10 for me, after 12 this dropped to 7 or maybe 6.5 for me. I will still rate it 8.5 since I liked direction and acting quite a lot.
TLDR: Definitely worth watching and definitely a refreshing experience, but requires a different mindset going in and whether you will like this or not you will clearly know in 1-2 episodes, so, go for it!
