It depends on our personal tastes and expectations. Dealing with different things, the plots are differently oriented towards genres in two seasons. I appreciated those "high moments" from S1 (who will ever forget that sublime poetry banquet?), but I personally enjoy S2 more, I find its dialogues wittier, political hypocrisy funnier, characters showing gray-er traits and can't complain about the development of the "course of action" either. In a way, we can say that the "high moments" from S1 are substituted with a sort of "low moments" (lol, I mean: "morally disputable") which develop dynamically, in a sort of crescendo: "who will enter first the city gates?" in ep.6, then the "family dinner" at emperor's palace, the court debate n°1 in ep 10 (when FX manipulates censors to take over the corruption investigation), three couples simultaneous date at Wan'er's place (FX finally shows to the 2nd prince he is a person to be feared of) in ep. 12, culminating with the highest "low moment" (lol again) till now: ep. 15, court debate n°2, the emperor shows his true colors by ordering the chief censor being beaten to death. Maybe the verb "love" is not appropriate for this darker "course of actions", but I enjoy it more than the course of action in S1.
As I read through lots of comments in this drama, there are similar questions being asked. Kindly just checked some of the spoilers that I have posted in the comments. I would like to apologize being the bearer of bad news to you. Since you love S1 and like S2, S1 gave many memorable/re-watchable moments. S2 will not provide that moments a lot. In season 2, Fan Xian will find out the dirtiest, low life and corruption of political arena in Qing Kingdom due to Qing Emperor's action as you have watched in Season 2 drama until now. The darkest of the drama will be in Season 3. Don't worry I won't spoil it for you.
As a JOL fan, I find it very weird when other fans attack anyone for sharing their OWN negative honest opinion on season two. People have the right to have their own opinions and not everyone who doesn’t agree with your own is a “troll”. Please grow up and accept that not everyone is going to like what you like.
One impressive detail I hope non-players will notice is in Ep 20, starting from 34:06 onwards. When LYY picks up the rest stick to assist in potting the final red ball, he suddenly abandons the rest stick. Why? Because gigachad LYY decided to switch to his non-dominant LEFT-HAND to pot the ball.
I’m pretty sure it has to be inspired by Ronnie O’ Sullivan (World Ranking No. 1 Snooker Player) who is effectively ambidextrous (predominantly right-handed but can play at the professional level with his left as well since he trained it). I know one of his games where he pauses briefly (like LYY), then proceeds to pot the pink ball with his LEFT-HAND and eventually achieved the maximum break of 147 just like LYY in the show as well (which is btw insanely difficult to hit 147 even for pros). Both the shots are very similar including the angles. I’ll link it for those interested in that game. 7:05 onwards. He played with his left-hand a total of 2 times for the whole game (6:24 another time). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-aVllqDibM&t=425s
Just to let u know how strong this dude is, Ronnie O’ Sullivan recently won The Masters (one of the big 3 snooker events) in Jan 2024 and became both the youngest AND oldest snooker winner in history, so he basically cemented himself as a living legend that dominated throughout his entire career. I think he is also the oldest winner for another big 3 event as well, with tons of world records. Oh yeah, one of his very old but famous controversy was that he played a number of shots with his left-hand in one of his pro game, and subsequently destroyed his opponent, opponent thinks it was disrespectful and refuses to shake his hand after the game etc, and I think Ronnie’s response was something along ‘I can play better with my left-hand than u could with ur right-hand’, if this is not one of the greatest flex in snooker, then idk what is, perhaps he’s just stating facts.
Agreed with your point regarding "wind down". But the problem is, this drama gave people more stress, forget about…
no worries. no offence taken. everyone is allowed to have their own likes and dislike. my cup of tea may not be yours but that doesn’t make us enemies. peace ✌️

Because not everyone gave it more than that on average. But don't be fooled with the ratings, the storyline out…
its increase to 8.1..people might waiting to finish the drama before rating. Only few pople rate 1.0 but that just sus cause few of them rate low just watching ep 1. Once more people watch this drama, they will will fall in love and the rating will increases.
