started off really well but became flat way too fast

I don’t want to write a long review so I will just state the main points (just finished it, thought I found a gem but ended up wasting my time)

✅ lots of expectations at the beginning because it started off really well and the editing was great
✅ the female lead personality at the beginning was promising (real one, not the cutesy whatever that was)
✅ the video game immersion was interesting (I loved it in Love Scenery) at the beginning only
✅ second lead couple is cute
✅ I love Lin Yi’s acting usually (I have to put that here cause I ain’t got any other good point to state for the positive side)

❌ no chemistry between the leads
❌ no romance, completely missed the romcom part
❌ the editing after the first 6-7 episodes makes no sense, they make you expect something but completely ruin it and goes straight to the next day for some reason ?
❌ the female lead was okay at first but gradually becomes unbearable and very toxic, I was very disappointed about that because I related to her at the beginning
❌ the plot becomes super flat, anything and nothing happen it’s very blurry
❌ no time to actually care about anything
❌ editing, directing AND scriptwriting could have been much better, it got so bad towards the end that it was painful to watch
❌ just what the actual hell was the part with the parents meeting ???????? like, what ??? felt like a fever dream
❌ the ending was complete garbage to be honest, it was rushed and not satisfying at all

yeah so my final advice would be, if you are genuinely extremely bored, why not ? 🤓

but if you are looking for a really good drama with a great plot, good chemistry, satisfying editing and characters, and most of all, ACTUAL romantic scenes and relationship development

don’t waste your time 🤗

here are some recommendations to watch instead :
- Love Scenery (with Lin Yi but much MUCH better)
- Hidden Love (if you’ve been into drama for a while you probably already watch it)
- The Romance Of Tiger And Rose (my guilty pleasure, Zhao Lusi will entertain you all the way and the plot is innovative as well)
- Till The End Of The Moon (Luo Yunxi and Bailu’s chemistry is excellent and the overall plot got me on a chokehold all the way through)

thank you for reading this and have a great time watching dramas :)

please be aware, I will complain about some foolish comments I have read below

I usually don't comment but I feel utterly annoyed by the comments belowe, here is why

First of all, for those who are complaining about not having a kissing scene or a more developped romantic plot, it's completely normal as the main focus of the serie is TCM (Chinese Traditional Medicine), you have the right to dislike the drama because since there is not enough romance it is not to your taste, but don't complain about it because it's not the purpose of the drama anyway

Second of all, for those who are complaining about the main female character Sun Tou Tou, I do agree with you that she was rather unbearable at the beginning, I myself had a hard time watching her behave in any situation, BUT, I still decided to continue watching as I was interested in the TCM part. And what I can say is that after a few episode, Sun Tou Tou improves a lot and even become a character that you respect and look up to, so I can understand the comments complaining about her in the few first episode but as someone who watched the show until the end, I can attest of the fact that she is an interesting and worth liking character as she improves a lot and eventually become you will root for (to give an idea, I would say that she starts improving and become enjoyable to watch around ep 10). Let's not forget that the whole purpose of Sun Tou Tou in the show is character development.

Another clarification, for the matter of Meng Meng, her parents were mad at her and started to lock her up because they were ushamed that she was a sex addict, her parents are extremely proud people and they didn't want her to stain their reputation and bring shame to their family. Unfortunately, Meng Meng's issue was an ilness and not some random lust desire. Her parents failed to comprehend what she was going through and decided to lock her up until she became 'normal' again. This played a part for a later downfall, but the main issue was that her boyfriend, an extremely toxic partner was blackmailing her of sharing private videos of her online and publically shame her. She was scared of his threatenings, scared of her parents but also extremely disgusted with herslef, ans THIS is why she eventually ended up taking her own life, it's not just because she was masturbating as some comments seems to claim. If you think that this character was stupid or that she took her own life for foolish reasons, then you didn't get the situation at all.

For the matter of Tian Zhen (the one that people call the ML even though appart from Tou Tou everybody in the show is a side character), he will also improve with time, I agree that his behavior in the few first episodes is not the best but once again, he has his family's pressure on him, his father is always degrading him, and his every moves are controlled by his family, so let's say that his behavior is completely understandable even if not 100% right. I feel like I am repeating myself but the basic of having flawed characters from the start is to make them improves throughout the show, having perfect chracters would be uninteresting and there would be nothing to develop at all.

To finish up and this is the thing that bothered me the most when I read the few comments on this
website, the main point of the drama is to show what TCM is, so if you are not interested in the main purpose of the show, don't critisize it and rather go watch something else. I don't understand the people who claimed having fast forward more that half of the scenes, what's the point of doing that ? If you truly don't enjoy it and don't want to try appreciating the show then just drop it.

Well that's it, I truly had to comment because it seems that the only people who decided to give their opinion here were unworthy of it. I could understand objective and argumented critics but what I read was only dumb criticism ans it brings down the show for no valid reasons.

For those who read my complain until the end, I would recommend watching the show if :
- you enjoy Zhao Lusi's acting
- you are willing to give it shot with at least 6 episodes
- you enjoy ennemies to lovers romance, even though it's a sub plot only
- you like educational dramas and would like to learn more about TCM
- you like binge watching dramas (as there are 41 episodes)
- you want to educate yourself (I learned a lot from this drama and you will as well)

That's it ! I hope you will give it a shot ! And if you are not interested or didn't like the show, please provide intelligent ans well argumented comments down below without missing the point :)
