I usually cant stand Historical dramas but since Rowoon and Byungchan are in it I decided to give it a try and it's actually pretty good! I'm invested and excited to see what will happen.
This has got to be the weirdest thing I have ever watched. It was interesting for a one time watch but I can't give it more than an 8 because the lack of explanation was not cool. I'm fine with a little mystery but like damn they didn't explain one single thing. Even the ending was bizarre and apparently there's not a sequel so now I just have to wonder for the rest of my life. I did like the Main Character and some of the other characters, they weren't that deep but they were fun to root for. I did like how it kept the suspense until the end, and how each game was different, and how they were like stuff you actually had to figure out rather than a straight forward "you do this to win". The visual aspects were better than expected as well.
Since everyone feels the need to compare this to Squid Game even though they were literally nothing alike besides playing games, I would say I prefer Squid Games better but I wasn't a huge fan of either one and there were definitely aspects of this movie I liked better than Squid Games.
But seriously guys they're nothing like each other lol. Squid Games is more about human greed, and desperation, and loss of humanity whereas As the gods will is about survival and sacrifice and human emotion. Two entirely different messages and purposes.
Very much pissed off at the GL episode. I was looking forward to finally having some representation but it was garbage. They can do great plots for BL but once it's GL this is what they give us? Really disappointed. (just my personal opinion ofc im sure plenty of people liked it)
Second episode was a *bit* boring but cute! I liked the Bi and lesbian rep, and I liked how they made a point of the fact that even though she was bi doesn't mean she's gonna like every girl, and how she ended up falling for a guy, bc being bisexual doesn't mean straight or gay as BL specifically always tries to portray it *eyeroll* I also liked the commentary on unhealthy shipping of celebrities
I really like his acting! Most actors I've seen kind of stick to their own little vein that they're best in like romance or crime, but Song Kang has proven to be able to do any kid of role. Romance, horror, emotional, etc. He's been different and equally good in every drama he's been in (that I've seen). He's not my fave actor, and he's not the best out there or anything but I really like his acting and I think he's only due to grow and get better as he goes on and I'm excited to see what how he grows in the future and what he'll continue to bring to the Kdrama industry.

the ending was a portrayal of how we make bad decisions. A lot of us have made decisions like Nabi did. I liked how the ending was portrayed as happy and they even tried to romanticize it but you could tell the deeper meaning, like when she saw potato boy and hesitated for a moment like she knew she made the wrong choice. It was this nice hidden darker meaning I really enjoyed.

I have ADHD and it's super hard for me to sit through a drama without getting bored and having to stop and do other things or multitask as I watch. But I never once got bored throughout this show and enjoyed watching. The ending didn't make me disappointed or happy because I genuinely didn't care what happened. Like if that's the choice she wanted to make, then let her. It was a realistic portrayal of how people really act and what decisions they make. I also gave it a 10 because I adored all the side characters and their dynamics and plots. I also just loved the general vibe and the OST and the acting was pretty good too.

That was a lot of questionable moments between Soohyun and Jun in that lest ep omg. They literally compared them to light and dark falling in love and Jun talk about falling in love while staring at Soohyun with tears in his eyes like- ah well. Even if they didn't end up together, it was really good. I'm glad they didn't give Soohyun a romance. I would have preferred they give him his mlm relationship like in the webtoon, but at least they didn't make him straight. They just left it so it could go either way which is better then nothing. Anyways, since they didn't give him an end game I'm just gonna tell myself that Jun is dating both Sobin and Soohyun and they are a very happy throuple case closed.
