I believe the two shows were not to similar, but they did have similar goals; living. During Squid Game, their goal was only for money that they would posses. But a main theme of this show is greed. The desire for money ruining humanity.
During AIB the game focuses on desire. And while you could call a main focus of SG’s theme desire it isn’t nearly as similar as borderlands. In this theme they desire to live but only for that; living. They had no money at the end, no purpose in the end. Nothing for them to reach the end of the game except their lives. But just like Squid Game they use their desire to live and ruin their humanity.
