Tushan Jing/Ye Shi Qi - Firstly, I think he's too passive, which means he doesn't try to protect the woman he…
“Force himself on a woman” I don't think it's the right words to describe him. It is more like “he used her” from the earlier episode. And yes we might be feeling frustrated because he is not voicing out his feelings but he chose it himself and later on I’ve been hardly accepting his life decisions. That is the consequences we get when we (viewers) are trapped by him. Not a major spoiler but we’ll all sink together when the drama ends.
CX and XY are cousins. Maybe in their culture marrying your cousin or distant relative is okay but I also understand that some of us who don't have that kind of culture might find it inappropriate (even for me). Additionally, I also view them as close family.
Anyways, I would like to thank you for sharing your insights!
I find it odd when people said he was stalking her. He came to see her at FengLong's residence but because he…
“How can he not feel insecure when she has other suitors when he himself is basically cripple?” but there is a part where XY suggested a way to heal his wounds but he did not do it since XY said she is not bothered by the way he walks. He chose it himself.
Nonetheless, I am not sure how you define stalking, but for me it will be a creep if someone is monitoring me without my consent or if someone is watching and eavesdropping on my actions. Also, XY does not do that to TSJ even though she misses him.
They are all faulty, well even in the fantasy world there is no such perfect being.
thanks for sharing this great review on the main characters, I agree with everything you have said. And i am convinced…
Right, when she’s not with XL it seems like she always has roles to play and kind of places herself in the corner. If she's with XL she can be her true self and she can honestly tell what’s on her mind.
Just my two cents, but I think the way the novel is written is intentionally supposed to not only make us feel…
I’m absolutely surprised to see my username here. I like how you play with your words when describing and sharing your insights. It is not straightforward but it can pinpoint the character you are talking about. I had fun reading your comment. And yes, TH made this story like a roller coaster ride and like a puzzle for us to find out what are the pieces that fit one another.
I find it odd when people said he was stalking her. He came to see her at FengLong's residence but because he…
First, I don’t think he already has the “rights” to monitor everything that XY’s doing since they are not a legal couple. I think he did not totally let XY to hang out with FFB because he is still on watch. Even if he is not personally there, he has people to report things for him. If he really respects her boundaries and if he knows his limits then he will not do that. About his insecurities, we know that XY made sure that he is all accepted by her so it shouldn't be one of the reasons (of what we are talking about) because he should also work about it by himself.
I don’t have much to say about their past lives because if all the characters did not experience those traumatizing and awful things then we are actually not having anything of these. And there will only be CX and XY in the story.😂
I find it odd when people said he was stalking her. He came to see her at FengLong's residence but because he…
I am referring to the “stalking” thing when he always tracks XY’s location whenever she’s with XL/FFB. He hides somewhere else, watches, and listens to them, like what for? When in fact she willingly agrees to go around with XL. I think you misinterpret me with that part. I agree, Jing can ever restrict XY of anything. But he gave XY a deal of having to wait for him for 15 years which XY agreed on. That is not a problem for me, but he added that she also should not open her heart to another man. Just like what you said, their love for that moment is not deep so TSJ should not ask for that because the certainty that he can fulfill his promise is still unknown (that is some restriction that I am talking about). I will not add more to your whole 2nd paragraph, since I clearly understand your point with it.
the only reason im more inclined to jing is bc xiang liu doesnt speak about his feelings, of how he really felt…
That is why “actions speak louder than words” does not actually work. Action can be confusing if you are not voicing it out. Obviously, XL intentionally made himself a shadow to XY’s happiness since he will not give up his commitment to the army. If he really wants to pursue XY and to wander with her for the rest of their lives, I know for sure he will not hesitate to be straightforward. It takes time for me to accept it, but again we know from the start that XL’s fate is doomed.
thanks for sharing this great review on the main characters, I agree with everything you have said. And i am convinced…
I also agree with you. XY became dreamy when she came back to being a girl. I think she's trying to discover things, especially things about love. As I said from my comment, YaoJing gives the viewers the feeling of “young love” and we all know what it feels and looks like. She also always says that she does not hope or expect too much from others, but the thing is she also easily agrees on things that can hurt her like accepting promises.

Here’s my personal reason why I settled with my main ship XL and XY. I don’t want to impose any argument here since this is subjective. I dare to say what’s on my mind and preferences. I will only tackle what I see about their characters and not to pinpoint the actors themselves.
(Long read)
Feng Long – He is one of the main leads but he is not attached to any romantic relationships with XY. They can stay as friends since we can see that FL doesn't care much about women. It seems like his prime or priority is about power and to live to fulfill his ambitions. He likes fun and he is casual. What I like about him is, he is just chill and yes, I can't deny that he looks actually cute whenever he smiles. He is someone that you can go to just to get drunk together.
Cang Xuan - The only reason why I don’t ship him with XY is because I really see them as siblings that have been separated for years. That is why they long for each other and they care more for one another. Their closeness is different from the other ship but it is tender just like a family love. I sometimes wish to have a brother like CX since he will do everything to keep XY safe. Every scene that they have together, especially the emotional ones, are to treasure. Both YZ and ZWY bring the best of them to portray their characters.
Tushan Jing/Ye Shi Qi - I liked him as 17, though some of us might find him timid and boring with his character back then. The acts of service that he gives to WXL is more than enough to make a woman fall. I mean, who will not like someone who does things for you and makes your life more comfortable and easier? When he is reinstated as TSJ, there are things that he does that made me detached myself from him: a.) He makes XY wait for him for as much as 15 years but the thing is he always reminds her of that promise even if there is no progression for him in solving his personal problems. b.) I just find it off when he is stalking XY, because it will be a creep when it happens in real life. c.) Years have passed and the promise hasn't been fulfilled, yet I think he is still trying to restrict XY’s feelings about others. d.) I think he also drains XY’s emotional and mental health. e.) I am missing something fun about their relationship.
I am trying to understand that he is committed to a fiancee-relationship because he is not the one who made it. They say that blood is thicker than water but the things happening in his family is something that he needs to break through. He is too kind. It is good but he shouldn't let it burden himself. Jing is clever, but I think he is one of the people who become “stpd” when it comes to love. The emotions this ship gives to the viewer is like the feeling of “young love” where we can feel some tickles and also blush like a young girl. Anyways, I think DW will really stand out if his bangs are on in his hairstyles. I've been watching him from his other costume drama and I really like him with bangs. Again, he looks pretty in every crying scene he has even in his past dramas.
Xiang Liu/Fangfeng Bei - The first time I saw XL he already had the appeal to attract me. But on the other hand I am trying to know first of all the MLs before settling on one. He is a demon, and the first time he saw WXL, how do you think he should react when WXL trespassed in their territory? If we all know that he is a demon then the worst thing he can do is to instantly kill WXL that time but he did not. The blood sucking thing is controversial. At first, we can see that it is forcefully done but after a few episodes past we can also see that WXL doesn't care anymore (he sometimes offers his blood to him). It also angered me when he used WXL to help CX be killed, like girl aren't you friends already? But the thing that made me settle for him is when he started to feel and show emotions: a.) He tells XY’s things and stories that he never told to anyone. b.) He knows XY really well, he knows what she is afraid for and what kind of reasons can make her feel alone and lonely. c.) He respects her privacy and decisions, he doesn't limit her actions and let her do and feel whatever she wants to be. d.) He let her experience new things and places. He assure that when she's with him she can be carefree and be comfortable to be her true self. e.) He knows his limits and boundaries and he doesn't cross them. f.) He does things that can help her to protect herself since we all know that she is still strong willed even if she has weak power. g.) I can't say that he has changed, because I know for a fact his soft spot has been hidden for years and when he showed it to XY I can't say that it is a character development. I must say that he just became himself and XY made him do that.
I have so much to say about XL and I wish I have the capability to tell it more poetically. He is beautiful as the snow but we all know that when it is snowing it can be cold and also it is the season when we long for something or someone. If only he can give up his loyalty then maybe they can have a chance together. But when I am thinking that he will leave the people who have been there with him for years it also feels ridiculous. He is a hero. And I know what will and heart that a hero has—betrayal is not part of it. He knows for sure that his ending is doomed, that is why he did not dare to confess and I know for sure he also doesn't want to burden XY with the love she will lose if he ever dies. Additionally, they are enemies of different kingdoms just like XY’s parents. To turn this story into a different path, XY should have a different ending from her parents.
I know I’ll be devastated with the ending for sure but I am already filled with the beautiful scenes and acting from the past episodes. The drama gave us an engaging scene and made sure that we had the best fun memories with them even if the ending is kind of tragic. They are soulmates and my biggest what if. And I still want to ask, why heroes chose to die in battle rather than in arms or by the side of their lovers?
This is so tragic and I was teary when I was typing the last part.
CX’s coronation is not the grandest ceremony that I’ve watched in the c-drama world but I can say that it is one of the most powerful and impressive coronations. The yellow emperor holds greatness and authoritative features; it added suspense and epicness to the scene. CX and the yellow emperor have an expressive acting and they made me feel that they are like mountains standingly strong and in poise. The camera angles are also on point so is the background music used. Overall, it is splendid!
Omg their scenes are the most moving because of the things they went through and how they are the only closest…
Yes, their closeness is at a different level. But in my opinion, I don’t see them ending up in a romantic relationship. Maybe XY really sees CX as an older brother that is why I ended up doing the same thing.
The fighting scene CX together with XY is epic and superb! CX is stronger in terms of power but XY came through her witt, willfulness, and archery skills! FFB really taught her well—she can now protect herself.
PS. FFB looks really good in his assassin suit and features. He is dashing in that black cloak.
Me: 🙋♀️
