a fun masterpiece

Bon Appetit, Your Majesty was honestly a masterpiece from the very beginning right until the very end. I literally loved every single bit of it. It was just so beautifully written, produced, executed like everything about it was perfect. The whole concept was so refreshing to see, different from the usual kind of dramas, and it just felt really, really nice. I actually went into this blind and didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did, but wow, I was obsessed.

I don’t really have anything bad to say about it at all, except the ending. The ending did kind of frustrate me in a way, but not because it was bad. it was still a good ending and I was happy overall but it just felt incomplete. The unanswered questions really got me. Like how did King Yi-hun even manage to travel to the modern world? Why did Ji-young suddenly wake up in a hospital after being last seen on a plane? None of that was explained and after investing so much in their story, I just felt like I needed that closure. It was almost like they rushed it for the sake of giving us a happy ending, which was sweet, but it left major leaps in logic. Honestly, if they had made it 16 episodes instead of 12, they could’ve filled in those gaps and it would’ve been perfect.

The whole episode 11 scared me, like I didn’t know how the ending was gonna be, I couldn’t even imagine it at all, and episode 12 as well, like, it was just really crazy. I loved the whole entire aspect of going back into the modern era and how he came there and everything, like he fulfills his promise. it was a happy ending, and that was a very nice, happy bit for me. I needed a happy ending, I could not have taken a sad ending at all after it being such a good drama.

Ji-young waking up in the hospital — that’s like linking back to the start with the plane crash. The whole Joseon era thing almost feels like it was her “other world” journey, and then boom, she’s back to reality. But instead of her going to him, he chooses to come to her world, which is why he’s there when she wakes up. Again, no explanation, it’s just “accept it, they’re together now.”

So yeah, the ending was rushed, like they literally just did it to give us a happy ending without bothering to explain the logic. If they had even one more episode, they could’ve filled all of that in and it would’ve been way more satisfying. But the takeaway is just: don’t overthink the mechanics, it’s more of a fairytale vibe. They just wanted us to focus on the fact that they got their happy ending and love literally won in the end.

But apart from that, everything else was honestly just amazing. The romance was perfect, the comedy was on point, and I loved the whole entire cooking theme so much like I really wish I knew how to cook like that. The way the chefs and cooks all came together, the friendships, and then the whole transition into the modern world, it was just so, so beautiful to watch. The villains were obviously evil right to the end, which made sense for the story even though their backstory wasn’t the most important part for me.

Honestly, this drama just gave me everything I wanted. It was wholesome, funny, romantic, beautifully shot, and just felt so well put together. I don’t even know what more to say other than I loved it, love it, love it. If I had the time, I would definitely rewatch it because it’s just that good. For me, it’s a solid 9/10 and honestly, if the ending had been explained better, I would have easily given this a 10/10.
