I would definitely choose a well-written historical drama over a modern drama any day of the week. The stakes are just so much higher - like you mentioned in the "come to the rescue" scenes - it's quite literally life or death. And the level of commitment - yes! This is what I love about historical dramas, the undying love. This just doesn't hit the same way in modern dramas.
