I've lost count of how many times I've re-watched The Untamed. The first time I watched it was in 2020 and I dropped it because I found it a little confusing at the beginning because of the time skips and everything, but I went back to it and now it's my favorite series. Yes, it can be a little bit confusing specially if you understand nothing about old chinese cultivation and everything, but if you're planning on giving it a try, go for it!! If you liked this series, I highly recommend you to read the novel/books because that's the original version. This series has a lot of censorship so there are some parts that we're removed even tho they we're important, just because of that censorship. The Untamed is like peak of perfection.

Title The Untamed
I have a one question. Why do Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji separate at the end of the movie? Also, my favourite character…
That's not the original ending, the "true ending" is in the novel. The book has them together by the end.

But as an attempt to avoid the chinese censorship, they made both of them taking different paths. However, if you pay attention, after Wuxian plays that song "Wangxian" (which is the same song Lan Zhan played for him in the cave), you can hear Wangji calling Wuxian, making him turn around and smile, implying that they got back together. Also, if you look closely, when he plays the flute, Wuxian is wearing a different robe than the ones he was wearing when they parted, hinting that they met again after some time.

I highly recommend for you to read the novel because it's the original. The series is probably the most censored version of The Untamed because of the chinese censorship.
