Good start but mediocre ending.

I can’t believe I sat down and watched every episode without skipping.

I love Jinzhao’s character. She’s unapologetic, smart, and cute. She knows her worth better than anyone else. She treats everyone the way they want to be treated.

Lord Chen, on the other hand, is cunning and wise. He’s exceptionally good at what he does and is truly the best person for his position. I can't wait to see Ci Sha again.

I do sympathize with Xuan Qing a lil bit, but his motives in the end were simply unacceptable.

I’m having a hard time with Ye Xian. He’s so annoying and always wants everything to go his way without considering other people’s feelings. But in the end, I was devastated when I realized he was willing to sacrifice himself for what he believed in. It was an incredibly powerful scene, and I’m still in awe of it.

The biggest disappointment for me was the ending. After all the family conflicts and political drama, we only got about 10 minutes of a subpar ending with no real climax whatsoever. Episodes 38 and 39 were so good that I gasped and cried while watching them.

That’s why the final episode felt so sudden and mediocre in comparison.

Zero chemistry

This is my first time watching a drama starring Song Weilong and Bao Shang’en.

I’m sorry, but the female lead’s acting didn’t work for me. Her facial expressions were very limited. It felt like she only had two expressions throughout the entire drama. Song Weilong was okay, but the two leads had absolutely no chemistry.

Zero. Bland.

I just couldn’t connect with the story because of them. I also felt that the storyline wasn’t compelling enough to keep me invested.

I don’t care what people think. It was a 10/10 for me.

The plot, dialogues, backstory, everything was perfect.

Both of them, especially Zhang Ruonan, carried this drama till the end. I’m still amazed by how talented she is at portraying Wen Yifan as both vulnerable and strong at the same time.

The sleepwalking scene was hard to watch, especially knowing what she went through behind closed door.

Her mother was cruel and selfish. After everything, she still expected WYF to accept her like nothing happened.

I also fell in love with BJT’s talent and his chemistry with the female lead. Sangyan is loyal and caring. He never forces her to open up until she’s ready.

However,
The grandpa subplot felt unnecessarily long and a bit annoying. I’m okay with the second couple though, they were cute.

I will definitely visit this drama again in the future.

There is nothing noteworthy.

Am I expecting too much? I’ve read so many positive reviews about this drama, but I find it quite boring because it doesn’t really live up to its title, The Prisoner of Beauty. None of the characters really stood out to me, except for Song Zuer.

After that, the plot feels pretty generic, revolving around mother-in-law drama and the one-sided crushes of the cousin and the would-be sister-in-law.

The male lead is also inexperienced when it comes to relationships, so he constantly jumps to the wrong conclusions. Most of the time, the female lead has to be the proactive one and sort everything out.

I made it to Episode 28, but I still couldn’t find any truly memorable scenes, so I decided to drop the drama.
