I didn't find the historical part that terrible tbh, but I think that if they really wanted to show us viewers that Ma Ri and Jae Min were fated... they could have used those episodes better? Maybe not just focusing on one specific period... but allowing us to see how they are fated to each other as time goes by. idk?
