Gripping suspense drama with outstanding acting
The three male leads steal the show here - the two veterans who dominate their scenes and Zhu Li Yong's understated but intense performance. This drama is largely about the dynamics between their three characters, set against a backdrop of Communists vs Kuomintang, China vs Japan and lots of espionage.
The FL's character is less interesting although she does evolve, and don't expect a big romance - it's rather dull.
The production quality and direction are first-rate, the tension is sustained through most of the drama and the character development/ unveiling really interesting to observe. The later episodes are weaker but it's still a gritty, nail biting watch and one of the best in this genre.
