He did not pretend to be dumb. He just pretended not to remember everything happened while he was dumb after he turned normal again. The reason I think was a little ashamed, little jealousy, little embarrassed, little worried that she would not love him the same way as when he was dumb

Some people said she had such a bad temper but she did not until he told everybody that they have never made love yet. she realized that he lied about losing his memory. Their feelings were deep, how could he lied to her about something like that
