Hey, I'm glad you took the time to respond to my review! I love hearing other people's opinions. To clarify what…
Hi againn^^ For the Tanrak's conflict I want to clarify myself too, I get what you mean and I actually partially agree, but I also think that the concept of the first episodes was the fact that the main character constantly tries to hide from God, and not from what he perceive as a sin (being gay). Everywhere you can see that God is "watching him", from the paintings to the texts on the walls ect. He hides everytime from his gaze, also in one of the kisses scene, if you remember they were behind the Christ's statue, there's a lot of symbolism in this drama. As I said he constantly pretends that the guilt he's feeling isn't real, because when you are alone it's easier to fool yourself that God isn't really watching you. Also because God is an abstract figure, he's not as real as the judgement that comes from your peers for example, you can more easily ignore him. So for me it actually makes sense Tanrak's reaction, they just should have made it more evident
And for the Father's thing, I totally agree that he wasn't clear enough but at the same time I don't think the same as your interpretation. It's true that at that time homosexuality was seen as a great sin, but the Father never had any negative reaction in the finale, where Tanrak choose to not become a priest and instead keep on being cristian while dating a man. I really don't think he's character is supposed to be homofhobic, just like Kongdech, priests can have different opinions, Father Arnon probably just think that the only important thing is your love for God, the sin for him was hiding from God, not loving a man, so when Tanrak decided to keep on loving God while also loving himself and Barth the Father was happy for him
Also thanks to be so nice exposing your opinions, it's refreshing to have healthy debates like that!
I'm sorry but I don't get the first part of the comment... You're saying it makes zero sense that Tanrak doesn't feel that much guilt at first but then you say that is because he was conditioned to feel that way after the real treat of others finding out... You're saying the reason yourself(?)... I mean, Tanrak clearly has always being conditioned by the contest where he lived but, even if you truly start believing in that toxic thoughts, when nobody know and nobody see is so much easier to just don't think about it, to just follow that desire that burns inside you without thinking. And in the first kiss scene he states that he's also not God's favorite son like you said, but it's not a real and definitive rejection of God, he kissed him believing it was a sin but in that moment he just decided to temporarly ignore a part of himself, to ignore the guilt he was feeling deep down (like he did when he relieved himself in the bathroom, in that kiss scene he just decided to go farther)
And also, I agree that the Father's words were not phrased that good and I also thought it was like you said, but after the finale I think what he was truly saying was "your love is not wrong, but it's a love that makes you constantly feel fear and guilt, and that is what makes you lost God, it's up to you understanding what your heart truly wants and if that love can be a love that doesn't reject God", and while I admit I hoped that the role of the transfem character would have been taken by the Father I also understand that being himself a priest he couldn't make that choice for him, also because Tanrak always wanted to be a priest too, and you obiviosly HAVE to choose between love and being a priest, being gay or not
I want to be clear, I don't personally think this drama is perfect, but I also think your critisism is a bit exagerate... the story should have been longer and expressed better (the Father should have been clearer and the conditioned hate of Tanrak about himself more showed), but I don't think a drama like that deserve a 4... I just hope you can revalue it a bit, no means to offend at all! Or maybe start a nice discussion about it, I myself just finished it and I could be wrong. Also hope you'll understand my terrible english, lol. Have a nice day! ^^
