If the roles were reversed and the ml was the depressed one who constantly felt like a burden to everyone around him, the comments here would be soo different.

Also looking at this show and the synopsis, it was definitely wrote as a male lead centered show. The director is legit out to make the fml seem as evil/ inconsiderate as he can.

Bruh I feel the same way
Right! I think because people hear "female centered shows" they think the male lead should have no personality outside of the fml. Which if that happens it will bore the masses now or later.

A female oriented show can still give its male lead his own personality, motivations, conflicts, and storyline. Those things don’t take anything away from the female lead. In fact, they would make their relationship more interesting because we would actually understand who he is rather than only seeing him through what he does for her.

I'm not sure I'd say his character is very underdeveloped, but more like he's the portrayal of a typical noble…
I actually agree with some of this, especially that his gradual change through his experiences with Achou is intentional. I can see the argument that the show is using his privileged and sheltered upbringing to highlight the differences between their worlds, and I do like how he has become more open minded and less cold over these episodes. But again, we never really experience that change with him. He just seems a little different in each interaction with her, without us actually seeing what happens internally to bring about that change.

I don’t feel the show has done enough to develop him beyond that “gradual” change. His background explains why he is the way he is, but it doesn’t necessarily give us enough insight into his current personality, ambitions, thought process, or what drives him independently of Achou. And that’s really what I mean by underdeveloped. I’m not saying he hasn’t changed or that his character has no purpose. I’m saying that so many of his decisions and actions are kept off screen.

I want to actually see how he came to understand and accept the differences between their backgrounds, how he processes those differences internally, the steps he took to get her the title of Lady of Wu’an, how he found the person who knows about her past, and so much more. Instead, we are usually just told what he has accomplished afterward.

We mostly see him through his interactions with Achou, but rarely get to see him on his own. That’s the part that feels lacking to me. I just want to know more about him as an individual, not only who he is in relation to her. Otherwise, it feels a bit meh to me.

GET TF LOST, THIS IS A FEMALE OFIENTED SHOW, I BET YOU DON'T DEMAND THE ROLE OF FEMALE MCS IN MALE MC SHOWS RIGHT?…
You are being very immature. If you disagree with my opinion, that’s fine, but Do you think you are making a better point when you get very vulgar and write in all caps? Get lost!

Is Lu Zhuo just an accessory in this show? His character is very underdeveloped. I don’t like that we only really get to see him through his interactions with her. I wish he had his own storyline and that we got to know more about his personality, interests, and motivations outside of his relationship with her. Right now, everything he does feels so superficial, like his character only exists in relation to her rather than as a fully developed person of his own. Even when he went to the Emperor and got her the title of Lady of Wu’an, they didn’t actually show us how he managed to make it happen. We were simply told that he did it. Which seems to be a pattern with Lu Zhuo, so many of his actions happen off screen or behind the scenes, instead of us actually getting to watch him make decisions, take risks, or work toward something.

Same happened in tonight’s episode. After overhearing her conversation with her mother, he immediately figures out that she’s suspicious about her background and storms off. Then, the next thing we know, he’s in her room breaking down the stove for her and has already found someone she can meet who might be able to tell her more about her past. But we don’t get to see the thought process or the steps he took to get there. Everything just happens, and we’re expected to accept that he somehow made it happen.

I really struggle to connect with his character and even his romantic scenes with her. I want to see him doing things and understand his thought process, rather than constantly being told afterward what he has accomplished. It would also help if he had his own ambitions, conflicts, and storyline outside of her.

Even Wei Rao feels much more fully developed as a character. We have a clear sense of how she thinks, how she will react in different situations, and what she wants. We are also genuinely looking forward to learning more about her backstory. With Lu Zhuo, I don’t feel that same curiosity because we still haven’t been given enough of him as a person. So much of his characterization is tied to what he does for her, rather than who he is independently. So disappointing🫠
