First couple episodes were terrific and fun. Actors continue to be great but not so much the plot, situations. Starting ep 6 and hoping storyline improves...
It's Mandarin. But since this is a costume period drama and involving court officials, there'll be the usual formal…
I'm watching on Viki - using English subs.
Indeed, I was referring to Chinese subtitles that show on-screen during the officials' & other 'intellectual' discussions. [In about 20% of scenes, there are translations in Chinese subtitles, as well as English Subs. I assumed that the Chinese subs were from the original broadcast & had to translate portions of it for the original audience. That made me think there were multiple languages used in the show - and was just wondering what they were. ] From what you're saying, it sounds like there was Mandarin used throughout plus Formal Mandarin (??) used by the court officials. Is that correct?
Really enjoying this show! ML is adorable, honorable, and strong. As is the FL. In very different ways. Each of the couples is pretty intriguing in their own way, as well.
Anyone know which languages are used in this show? It looks like multiple languages / ?dialects? are being spoken throughout the series. I'm watching via Viki (ENG subs)... The Chinese - to - Chinese script translations usually happen during meetings of 'officials' or discussions of policy/official business. So, I'm guessing one lang is Mandarin?? Just curious what languages are being spoken... I thought I would be able to hear the difference - but, I can't. Sigh.
I binge series most of the time. But this one was so beautiful (and healing for me), I parsed it out very slowly, as needed.
It's also fun, delightful, and CURIOUS. While slow paced, I was never bored.

So. Very. Boring.
Well-worth watching. Touching. Funny. Heart-wrenching. And, yes, tragic.
