Centered on two characters
Many people say that the ending was terrible, but for me, it was the best possible conclusion the writers could have given. The whole series showed just how far people are willing to go when enormous amounts of money are at stake.
The two characters I especially want to highlight, whose final confrontation happened at the very end, were Seong Gi-hun and Lee Myung-gi. They were complete opposites, representing entirely different attitudes toward the situation. Seong Gi-hun was deeply moral, and with his famous line “We’re not horses, we’re people”, he expressed his defiance. By refusing to continue the game, he stood against the creators and their degrading, manipulative treatment of desperate people.
On the other hand, Myung-gi’s character embodied the complete dehumanization of man — a total lack of empathy, morality, or humanity.
These two characters created an incredible contrast, which, in my opinion, was the very essence of the entire series.
