Overall, I enjoyed it as a drama depicting a fluffy romance; I appreciated the chemistry between the two leads. However, there are some things that made me bored/annoyed: - The love triangle was not even a proper one; - I hated, HATED the comedy involving the gang members and the youngsters; it was a useless filler and istg I wanted to skip everytime they appeared onscreen - I appreciate the rythm given by the thriller part but the ending was so underwhelming; 16 episodes trying to catch that guy and there was no explanation to why he did it and so little time to see what happens after they catch him - The homophobic jokes and the abusive relationship between Bong Soon's mother and father; it's not funny if it's the man the one who gets beaten - Min Hyuk's family matter: where did it go??? They discussed about it for some episodes and then everybody forgets about it?? Hello??? In conclusion, I think they did a good job with the romantic story but every other subplot was all over the place
The thing is, we all started this drama attracted by the presence of the handsome princes, a catchy triangle story (the gentle prince or the one who only seems so dangerous?),the historical environment with the colourful dresses and stunning backgrounds. But the more you keep watching, the more you deepen yourself in a darker storyline. There are no more funny situations, or fluffy and cute moments. There are only murderers, and victims, betrayals and melodramas. For us people who haven't even heard of the original drama (the Chinese one) this change represented a big shock and now what is left is this sour ending. This is why this last episodes were so disappointing in my opinion: they leave you with nothing but bitterness.
If you take a closer look to all the episodes, you may notice that the drama is involving itself in all kinds of genres: it started like a rom-comedy, then it become a thriller (with, in the last episodes, a little spice of horror!), including also a medical context and a road trip (Kang Chul and Yeon Joon running away from the police)!
I haven't finished The Heirs yet, but I can't understand all the hate Park Shin Hye's character has always received. It's not that she doesn't have a personality (like Jandi in BOF who was awfully mistreated by everyone around her with not even a bit of reaction from the girl's part), she is just weak. Yes, she cries and complains a lot but that's just because she know she is in a familiar and economic situation she can't overcome. On the other hand, the main lead played by Minho is so irritating and abusive toward her and I can't understand how his is not an unrequited "love", if it's love we can talk about! He does nothing but stalking, pursuing and threatening her! I'm totally cheering for Woo Bin even if I know the ending is predictable.
Also can we talk about the fact that Hwang In Yeop looks like an ACTUAL 18 years old boy? Iconic
