I'm just a casual lurker, but Chen Du Ling truly deserves her flowers for her role in The Glory. Some of you act like someone took a hot flaming dump in your cereal in the comments. It’s ridiculous to see so-called adults hurling hateful vitriol at an actress who has done nothing but excel in her profession. It’s not her fault you’re insecure and feel the need to overcompensate with your pathetic projections.
If you're slinging mud because you belong to x or y fandom, that’s even worse. You deserve to be named and shamed by your faves for being a terrible human. Who wants to be associated with that kind of low-life behavior?!
What in "historical drama" people didn't understand? I loved the humor and smart ladies sisterhood. I want to…
I understand people's frustrations because everyone wants to escape reality and whatnot, but I don't think they fully realize just how restrictive the Song Dynasty was for women. Women were treated like property and had less significant roles compared to the Tang Dynasty, which likely contributes to their current perception of misogyny without acknowledging the nuances. It's worth noting that the sisters in the series are actively fighting and trying to protect each other, a detail that has been overlooked in the discussion so far. I wish people tried to understand the historical nuances instead of attacking the writer.
Did he stop acting? If so, what's he do for work now?
He recently portrayed Xiao Zizai in "I Am Nobody: The Showdown Between Yin & Yang" and was fantastic. You should definitely check it out if you haven't already!
Thanks for sharing the interview. I was curious about your personal views. Do you think this topic has layers of complexity that aren't immediately obvious in the interview?
For example, in the Tang Dynasty, women had more autonomy and independence than during any other era in Chinese history. They were able to be merchants and operate large-scale businesses independently, which gave them opportunities to foster these relationships. However, rivalries often stemmed from political intrigues and people vying for higher status.
For me personally, I love Flourished Peony because it shows that even in the face of adversity, women who are driven and naturally possess empathy (like Mudan) and share similar struggles are more likely to help those they've forged friendships with.
I also want to point out to those who may not be aware, women's roles and autonomy declined in the Song Dynasty when neo-Confucianism introduced stricter patriarchal values and essentially made it that women had fewer opportunities for independent economic activity and social mobility.
For some context, the Tang Dynasty lasted from 618 to 907 C.E., while the Song Dynasty lasted from 960 to 1279 C.E. -- so basically Song Dynasty came after the Tang Dynasty.
**Note: I used CE which stands for Common Era instead of Anno Domini (Latin for 'in the year of the Lord') since it is a secular term that avoids religious connotations and is more appropriate in academic and modern contexts.
Under no circumstances should a person be subjected to bullying and harassment online for matters that are none of anyone's business, provided it is not hurting or exploiting someone. In the same vein, why is this even deemed newsworthy? Who truly cares about who dated whom? I am tired of hearing about what passes for a "scandal" in such cases. If these individuals were mature adults, they would simply move on to find genuine happiness with those who value and respect them.
If you spread rumors without corroborated evidence, you are contributing to the problem!
Disclaimer: I am not criticizing the Editor, I am criticizing K-Media for making this a "scandal" when it shouldn't be.
I am utterly disgusted that it has been revealed only now that this drama is split into two parts.I purposefully…
Take a deep breath. I understand you feel frustrated, but lashing out at the producers when the show was clearly tagged as two parts isn't about them "tricking people." It's on you to read properly. This anger seems misdirected and a bit caustic.
"pay for what she did to me" coming from the princess is crazy bcs mudan did literally NOTHING like 😭
She is narcissistic and always makes everything about herself whenever she gets the opportunity. She is ruthless and misdirects her anger at Mudan instead of her spineless lover. I really enjoy the actress who plays the princess. She does an amazing job in interpreting this character both visually and in mannerisms.
Our leads have so much to deal with! Why add a concubine
To be fair, from a historical and cultural perspective, the depiction is realistic because imperial harems existed among royalty and noble families. Concubinage was hierarchical and served multiple purposes. The concubine may serve as a symbol of alliance or political instrument used to influence the household or gather information from within, which seems to be the case since there is a lot of plotting going on whenever she enters the scenes.
As a history buff, the Tang Dynasty is one of my favorite periods in history because women enjoyed greater freedom and independence compared to other dynasties.
What more will she grow😅? What new change are u expecting in her?
I think people want her to focus more on self-care and self-preservation because even when Mudan is in a bad situation, she will still try to help others around her. This isn't a bad thing, but it can lead to self-sabotage if taken too far.
She can’t be so weak to get married the same guy again and she has been tortured by him over years and she still…
Shenyi’s character is malleable one, easily influenced even to her own detriment because that's all she knows. She was born to abusive and unloving parents and she's normalized it to the point she finally tastes freedom and financial security, but falls back into bad habits. She still seeks her family that abused her and then her ex. I understand Op's point, but at some point, you have to stop and think about others around you. If your actions are hurting others, that makes you just as culpable as the abusers or predators.
What more will she grow😅? What new change are u expecting in her?
I think they meant for her to prioritize her own health and well-being since ep 21 contains backstabbing by a certain someone that leads to Mudan suffering.
FL's ex-husband, Liu Chang, tried to rape her when she was in the process of divorcing/leaving the Liu Family residence because he felt he was entitled to her. He's always viewed her as property and only "fell in love" with her after she divorces because she symbolizes freedom that he wants for himself from his own family. He's a milquetoast of a human.
I agree and disagree a bit. I agree Mudan doesn't understand Shengyi's wish or need to marry as Mudan's marriage…
I thought Mudan said that Shenyi could marry, just not to that parasite of a man. Everyone knew he only came around when Shenyi was doing better, and he knew she had half ownership of the flower shop.In real life, I’ve seen people who were abused by their exes go back to them only to leave again, which I understand due to bonded trauma and familiarity. You can sympathize until their personal choices begin hurting everyone around them. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.
ep 5 in : ................ liu chang tried to rape weifang, THIS IS SCARY AF, there should have been trigger warning…
Agreed. I wish CDramas had Trigger Warnings for scenes depicting sensitive topics or intense graphics scenes. I really enjoy this series, I just hope we don't get anymore of those kinds of scenes. I NEED Mudan to be safe and happy!
Just curious from a cultural and linguistic perspective, why does the article about Zhang Ling He, a Chinese actor, use "saesang" (사생팬), which is a Korean term for stalker, instead of "sī shēng fàn (私生饭), which is the Chinese equivalent? Based on my guess, it has to do with "saesang" being more well-known due to KPop. However, Chinese does have its own term. I just thought it was an interesting choice.
