Honestly, it’s disappointing to see the hate Hyunjun and Seonwook are getting on social media. Some Yunjae fans are calling them fake, accusing them of chasing fame, and claiming Hyunjun “betrayed” Yunjae simply because he chose Seonwook in the end.
This is an edited dating show, not a story where contestants have to follow the narrative viewers created in their heads. Hyunjun just followed his own feelings, and that choice happened to be Seonwook. Attacking them for that is unnecessary and unfair.
It’s okay to feel disappointed if your favorite pairing didn’t happen, but turning that disappointment into hate toward real people is honestly sad. Do better, people.
Some of you seriously need to step out of your bubble and remember what kind of show this is. This is a dating show — not a relationship, not an engagement, and not a tragedy because your favorite didn’t get chosen. Yun Jae is 28 years old; treating him like a fragile child who needs protection from normal rejection is disrespectful, not supportive. Attacking Seon Uk for “sabotaging Yun Jae and Hyeon Jun’s relationship” makes zero sense when there was no relationship to begin with. People are allowed to pursue mutual attraction without being turned into villains. Not everyone is obligated to prioritize your favorite contestant. Not every joke is bullying, and not every choice you dislike is a moral failure. Enjoy the show, feel disappointed if you want, but stop projecting narratives that aren’t happening and harassing real people over a dating show. I don’t even want to imagine the hate Hyeon and Seon would receive if they end up together. This level of extreme shipping culture is toxic, and the fandom is just as responsible.
On the other hand, as much as I like Taichi and Han Gyeol, some of Gyeol’s comments and his lack of empathy toward Taichi when he was literally sick — like saying “he’s maybe just a pretty face” and knowing that Taichi would have difficulty communicating properly in Korean — didn’t sit right with me personally. I don’t know if it’s the editing or what, and I’m not trying to attack him since we’re watching a heavily edited dating show, but moments like that honestly make my attraction toward him or anyone like him go down. Unlike previous seasons, where we saw contestants checking in on each other and showing care, this season feels like that aspect is missing — maybe due to editing — and I’m unsure how to feel about it. But oh well, I’m still enjoying the show — let’s see what more crazy twists and shenanigans it will bring.
Let’s be honest for a second. Seon Uk isn’t being attacked online because of anything he actually did—he’s being attacked because he comes between a popular ship and a fandom favorite. Calling him a “saboteur” or accusing him of sidelining Yun Jae is pure projection. This is a dating show, and people are allowed to pursue and reciprocate interest. Hyeon Jun has agency, and Seon Uk has done nothing wrong by liking someone who clearly shows interest back, and shipping does not give fans ownership over real people or their choices. Turning someone into a villain just because they don’t fit your preferred narrative is unfair and unnecessary.
Unlike some of the commenters here, I’m actually having a great time watching this season. The messy web of crushes — people liking someone who already likes someone else who’s also being liked by another person — is exactly what makes it fun. The conversations between guys who like the same guy are awkward, but also weirdly entertaining and interesting. I honestly have no idea who’s going to end up with whom, and that unpredictability is kind of the whole point. And also… let’s remember this is a 7-day dating show, well, now 14-day for 8 of them. They’re allowed to date around. Expecting your favorite “ship” to tunnel-vision on each other from day one feels a little unrealistic. Maybe let the chaos breathe a bit.
I sincerely hope Seongmin isn't reading the internet comments because people have gone completely insane disparaging him. Why are these people acting this way? Yes, you might refer to this as having an opinion, but I would describe it as cruel and vicious. It only serves to highlight your true nature as a person. I simply wish Seongmin the best because, like the other seven guys, he deserves to be happy.
