six episodes in and that journalist's pompous, gleeful personality irks me a lot more than it should. hiroto's just trying to get through the day and here she comes skipping up to him like he owes her anything

That would've been awesome actually having Kuze's voice actor in it! Completely agree about the karaoke too. I…
Yeah, I feel like it was a wasted opportunity to not have the real actors like Shibusawa, Kuze or Awano considering they're kind of adapting Yakuza 0 & Yakuza 1 like if they're going for multiple seasons (apparently this series is the 2nd most watched show on Amazon Prime?), this is now the time to use those actors ;_; Especially considering Shibusawa is literally in this iteration and they didn't bother using the real actor (never mind how they butchered his character). I truly feel like they still have a chance at redeeming themselves with the yakuza community by making the series feel like the games. Put in karaoke, use the game OST or at least inspired by the game OSTs, comedy substories, the dynamic/name intros before the fights, etc. Like I surely would love to see them have Oguri Shun play as Someya but of course that's still a far way to go lol

The second half definitely redeemed itself for me personally, especially when they decided to not deviate from…
Like Kiryu princess carrying Nishiki was what kinda sold it for me because personally that was what I always had wanted from this series, to do things new and differently from the game in like an alternate universe type of thing. Stuff like Yumi living, Nishiki's sister and Yumi being actual characters in this iteration, our main characters at the Sunflower Orphanage, Nishiki and Kiryu moments etc.

kazuma princess carrying nishiki outta there was the cherry on top
almost teared up watching that because that's what kiryu 100% would've done in this iteration

The second half definitely redeemed itself for me personally, especially when they decided to not deviate from the original story and stick to the original was when things started getting good (who could've guessed lol). Episode 5 & 6 brought it, the cinematography, the music, the acting, the action. I personally think it's a solid watch, nowhere near perfect but neither was the original game. 6.5 or 7/10, having watched it as a fan of the games and attempting to also watch from a perspective of a casual viewer, honestly I still would recommend even to yakuza game fans to at least give it a try and see some of the cool things they did differently among other certain bad changes they made.

I very much would still prefer to see a season two, considering they promised to bring karaoke in possible future seasons so hopefully they can restore that feeling the game franchise has in their games by bringing karaoke to the show among other things like actually using some of the real actors from the games. Like, they could've just used the real actor for Shibusawa or Kuze at least.

bando ryota is really nailing his performance playing his character, i don't even see the actor anymore. it's mi-kun whenever he's on screen.

I am caught up to ep 2. All I can say is, it is watchable as long as you just want to kill time.Since the director…
Agreed, seems like they toned down a lot of the comedy for more of a heart-warming, life-changing esque typical jdrama. Still a nice watch getting to see some of the cast though and the idea of Taizan swapping bodies with quite literally anyone in the country makes for an amusing premise lol

I very much miss that iconic fun ending with Miwa's song tho ;_;
