To be honest, I love Pete's care free attitude that we see during episode 11 and at the beginning of ep 12, Vegas is quite terrible at providing any entertainment if you ask me, my boy Pete is getting bored in there, which explains why he grabs books. 💀
Spoiler: I appreciate they allowed Pete to hear the conversation with his father, he finally got to know a desperate side of Vegas through a thin wall although he couldn't see his face, I know Pete was empathizing with him at that moment and not only Pete but also we as an audience got to know how deep Kan is burrowed into Vegas’s mindset. We saw how difficult it is for him to keep a facade and how easy it gets dropped in front of his father.
Spoiler: For me personally the worst torture Pete could get is the psychological one simply because physically speaking he is pretty used to the pain no matter how brutal it is so compared to what he had to go through mentally I'd say this method was quite pedestrian, at the end of the day we have to remember Pete is still the head bodyguard which a lot of people fear, he is capable of dealing with pain and I can tell that his body has went through a lot worst than a few whips with a belt and I think that this specific reason makes Vegas lose his flair because Pete can take it. For me it's all about the embedded mind game that he is trying to put Pete through, it's not about the beating, maybe it was at first but Vegas realized along the way that physical torture won't damage Pete as much.
At the end of it we see Pete flinching away and that's when Vegas accuses him of not being fun anymore. It's very hard to decipher Vegas, he is such a professional into crafting those masks but from my perspective I think that he wanted Pete to fight back, he wanted to be infuriated and add fuel to the fire but Pete didn't do that, he screamed and cringed away and that's because probably by this time, Pete has already figured out some little tricks to play Vegas at the tip of his fingers.
But Vegas thinks he won because he managed to make the other surrender before when he used his grandma as a pioneer to that advantage and Vegas likes the challenge of doing it once more yet when he sees Pete crumble under his belt there was something telling me he didn't like it, now that Pete finally gave control and didn't fight back again, he didn't appreciate it at all. I can see he wants to crawl into Pete's head but his methods to do it change so often that they nearly give me whip lashes and we can't forget the little games he plays, the perfect example is when he leaves the belt on the bed for Pete to reach it just in order to make sure of Pete’s training and skill but not only that, no he also wanted to quash any hope that Pete has to escape and he did it. In conclusion he likes to play games but he doesn't like to play the same game more than once that's why his strategies change everytime.
