Tong loved Pok and was worried he wouldn't get into his dream uni so Tong swapped Pok's exam sheet with Sandee's. Sandee got Pok beaten up and then told him Tong did it, so Pok missed an important swimming race. Pok was angry at Tong so said 'they're moving in together to keep an eye on him.' Since then they've been in this almost relationship, but definitely sleeping together stage. Sandee finally told Pok what Tong did and now Pok doesn't trust Tong and is worried he's going to get kicked out of uni if anyone finds out.

Thank you for your detailed and well explained reply! I can certainly see that trying to condense a book down into a short series has left a lot of room where information hasn't been presented well. Do you perhaps know if there's somewhere I can purchase/read the novel? Maybe that will fill in more of the gaps for me.
