One of the most romantic Cdramas ever!
I started this drama blindly, but I wasn’t expecting to love it so much. The chemistry of the main leads was insane, it just felt so natural and real. If you are looking for a romantic cdrama with mature leads who deal swiftly with misunderstandings, are openly affectionate with each other and willing to sacrifice for each other over and over again, you can’t go wrong with this drama. This drama also made me a huge Arthur Chen fan. I binged Lighter and Princess because of this drama, and it was amazing too. Without a doubt, He is one of the most promising among young Chinese actors, and he dubs himself too...which is so amazing cos his voice is the truth. I hope he releases more dramas cos I’m looking forward to his works. Wang Yinglou also did an amazing job, can’t wait to see more works from her too.

A slow but good watch.
This drama is a weird one. Some cases are quite interesting, while some are a slog to get through. Overall, it’s a good watch but I didn’t find it so engaging. I usually binge investigative dramas like this within a few days but it took me several weeks to finish this drama. The main lead, Lu Linfeng was smart and very good with martial arts, but he was really arrogant initially. He lost everything at some point and eventually became humble. I liked his character arc. His love interest Pei Xijun was also a spoilt brat who was obsessed with him initially, but she eventually mellowed down, and towards the last third of the drama, she became one of my fav characters. Su Wuming is the typical very smart and funny detective with great people skills, and he remained like that till the end of the drama.
One of the glaring weak point of this drama was the romance. I eventually warmed up to Lu Linfeng and Pei Xijun’s relationship, and even thought they were cute together with time. But I was shocked the drama decided to insert a “romance” between Su Wuming and Yingtao. First of all, he was too old for her, and there was no chemistry whatsoever. Infact Yingtao was believable as his daughter, so when they made her the one taking the initiative in the relationship, it was so uncomfortable to watch, I skipped those scenes. Otherwise, this is a slow but good watch.

Must watch!
After watching Coroner’s diary, I was looking for a similar drama and stumbled upon this one. I wasn’t expecting much starting it, but imagine my surprise when I found out what a gem this drama is. It’s one of those dramas where you go in not knowing what to expect but you are blown away by the thoughtfulness that went into the script. It may not be as romance heavy as the coroner’s diary, but it has the superior script imo. I don’t even think the romance is lacking, the couple had a very calm and mature chemistry, and I loved all their scenes together, especially because it was quite realistic and it didn’t interfere unnecessarily with the plot. The female lead is one of the cutest fls I’ve had the pleasure to view on screen. She is very smart and resourceful, but naive, which is unfortunately because she has been shunned and looked down on, all her life for being a coroner’s daughter. But this experience doesn’t make her bitter, instead she just took it in her stride and remained so optimistic, ambitious, and above all, very kind and sweet. It’s easy to see why ML adores her.
The Male lead is the star of this show imo. He doesn’t have the classical idol actor looks, but as the show went on, his intelligence, charisma, and aura would make it impossible for you to imagine anyone else playing Prince An. He is one of the smartest cdrama MLs I’ve seen, the way he pieces seemingly unrelated clues together is awe inspiring and he is great at plotting too, I completely understood why everyone respected and feared him. What’s unique about him is that, he is not the typical cold male lead. On the contrary, the way he carries himself shows the prestige and aura of his title, yet he is very upright, down to earth and fair to everyone. With the fl, he was not a simp, but he was not overbearing either. Even before he fell in love with her, he genuinely respected and appreciated her talents, and he was so accommodating to her from the first day they met. When he realised he was in love with her, he acted on it without hesitation. There was no unnecessary misunderstanding, love triangles or the likes, just a wholesome and sweet couple that mutually trusted, loved and respected each other.
Also, one good trait of a great show is how well fleshed out the supporting characters are. In this drama, although the ML is definitely the brains, the supporting characters are equally smart, and the villains definitely gave the ML a run for his money in the battle fields of wits. I also adored the relationship between the second couple, they were really sweet. And one of the best parts of the show is the utterly adorable relationship between the ML and his elder brother, the sweetest brotherhood I’ve seen on screen.
The only con of the drama is that the last episode was quite rushed, but since the drama ended well and everything was resolved, I don’t mind it so much. Anyways, if you are in the mood for a cdrama with a completely engaging plot encompassing brotherhood, friendship, betrayal, political intrigue, romance, etc, you can’t go wrong with this one.

Must watch drama!
Ah I rarely cry while watching dramas, but I teared up when I finished this drama. The main couple has so much chemistry that it didn’t even feel like they were acting. The ML, Li Xun is such an interesting character…he is so deliciously flawed, but you can’t help rooting for him to be truly happy even when the knuckle head is actively taking decisions to ruin his own happiness beyond repair. He was definitely madly in love with Zhu Yun, and he proved it to her in many ways. Unfortunately, he is so prone to self sabotage, and that is probably because he has experienced loss all his life, so when he is cornered, he goes all out without caring about the consequences. He is also very capable and confident, so he doesn’t fear ruining himself because he believes he can always build himself back up. Thankfully, with Zhu Yun as his anchor, he stopped being so hard on himself and finally allowed himself to let go of things and be happy with her. Past Li Xun would never let go of Gao jiahong otherwise.
I could write a whole thesis about Zhu Yun, she is one of the purest and bravest Fl I have ever seen, because it takes courage to love a man like Li Xun, but for Zhu Yun, absolutely no other man will do. I was really rooting for her all through this series, and I’m so happy she got full closure and a happy ending with the love of her life.
As for that weasel gao jiahong, I think the writers of this drama let him off too easily. He had always been plagued with debilitating inferiority complex to Li Xun, but he went too far with his actions, especially the last stunt he pulled with Zhu Yun. That was beyond despicable, he didn’t deserve the pity party last arc, and he didn’t redeem himself enough imo. If Fang Zhijing could go to jail, I don’t see why gao jiahong would go scot free considering they are both partners in crime.
I don’t want to make this post too long but lighter and princess is a must watch, with flawed but loveable characters. This is definitely going on my rewatch list if only so I could see the heart fluttering stares, kisses and warm hugs between Zhu Yun and Li Xun over and over again.
