Are there any particular reason for them saying nippon jin instead of nihon jin? Is it symbolized for anything?
It’s hard to explain but ”nippon” conveys some sense of pride for the nation. Using it would have been completely normal in the past but nowadays it’s considered rather patriotic, at least if you say ”nippon” a lot and in all possible contexts (+ combine it with other patriotic speech). Also, it was interesting how even the younger generations frequently used it in this drama as it's usually more common among older generations.

It was entertaining but it was also so nationalist that it was kind of hilarious. I watched it with my Japanese husband and we were having fun counting how many times they said "nippon" instead of "nihon".
