I like it! It's not on the level of the Stranger seasons but it doesn't have to be, I'm happy to spend time with this character in the spin off especially when he was sidelined for a lot of Stranger season 2.
Hi Lou! I watched this as it was one of your recommendations. But I must admit I am a bit confused and wonder…
Ok I see now the theory of FL actually might have killed the MLs mother and this makes pieces fall into place for 23 YO case. But still confused at 3 YO case and present day
rewatching it for the 5th timeman it is such a good drama .....I really need something similar to this ;-;
Hi Lou! I watched this as it was one of your recommendations. But I must admit I am a bit confused and wonder if you can illuminate some plot points for me.
I've spoiler tagged to be able to discuss the following:
i) So it is true that FLs mother killed MLs mother, FLs father covered it up and roped in and blackmailed the "main villain" (An Dong)? An Dong then made an elaborate plan to bring the truth to light and in doing so, was forced into a darkness to become as bad a villain as he was initially framed to be? His master plan was to assist copycat killers with little to no motive for the killings to move chess pieces around the board? Why was An Dong so angry when he himself told FL to "forget everything that happened?" Could he not foresee that a 10 year old would trauma block this event especially on his suggestion? Or is FL an unreliable narrator and we don't actually know if it was An Dong or her dad who found her in the closet? I find it weird that in the end it paints FL as grey if she literally psychologically blocked the event.
ii) So we don't know who killed Chien Chien three years ago? At least I can't remember ever being told...was it Four Eyes? The random Vietnamese dude killed Nicole, and then rookie cop cut the body in half to draw out An Dong or the chief prosecutor's son, and any other corrupt people? In the end, chief prosecutor's son whilst an awful human being and clearly had done evil acts, had no relation to the case at hand?
iii) He Kong (uni student friend of our HK guy) killed the third present day victim essentially on a whim, and this ties into the HK plotline as well as another part of An Dong's steering of the situation?
iv) In the end the main couple take a similar parallel to FLs parents in covering up the death of the man who was wronged?
I'm hesitant to say this fell a bit off in the final few episodes, but I really don't feel like I got the answers to this case, maybe you can help. Maybe I'm spoilt by the airtight writing of the many Light On series (also your recommendation!)
Omg! I love calling this stuff - I was suspicious of He Ping since episode 1! He seemed like the perfect candidate as I purposefully ignored the patsies the show was setting up. After Shen Jia Wen reveal I admit I dismissed He Ping altogether, but feel rewarded with him ending up being the mastermind after all.
Second arc 7/10 still decent but I felt they could have spent some more time writing it, not as strong as first arc.
