Your article made my day when it was initially posted, and now I finally have the time to properly leave a comment. I've always adored Chongqing, and its skyline is amongst one of my favorites within China. I became familiar with its staple architecture through a series called Reborn, and then revisited it (virtually, so to speak) once again when I watched the Light on Series: The Long Night later within that year. Then, more recently when I was able to find subtitles for a arthouse film called Chongqing Blues in which the city is the backdrop for the movie. Throughout, all works its skyline, bridges, and landscapes make an appearance (mostly in forms of aerial shots) and over time become easily recognizable. If I personally had to pick a favorite thing about the city it would definitely be the color scheme of the city skyline during the daytime. Especially, when the weather is on the gloomier side. I find it to be extremely comforting for some particular reason. If anyone is interested in watching other films that have filmed some location scenes in Chongqing I recommend watching: Summer Palace (2006), A Touch of Sin (2013), and Ash Is The Purest White (2018). A question for the writer, do you have any plans to write future articles about other Chinese cities? Hmm, should I go back and complete this entire drama? I stayed on episode thirty five years ago, but stopped watching it because I gradually lost interest. I'm considering picking it up again because I loved the first season so much, and even thought of it as a comfort show.
I made a similar statement months ago, but I will make it again. I seriously want this show to continue on in it's form of an anthology series. I'm obviously aware that not every single show needs a follow up season, or continuous ones at that. However, the way it's set up would work for in favor of additional seasons. Theoretically, speaking the same cast should be kept too (they all did a phenomenal job). Anyways, After Dark delivered in all aspects, and I will always be sure to watch it yearly during the fall.

there's quite a lot of triggering events throughout the series. mostly, religious trauma and abuse which severely gets worse as the show continues on. i wouldn't recommend watching it if you aren't in the right mental state. i made the mistake of doing so, and found it to be triggering to an extent.
this show is so amazing but i would never watch it again, i binged watch it but oh boy my already no good mental…
oh god, i agree. i watched it when i was cycling between depressive episodes, and let's just say my mental state wasn't the most put together either. i definitely wouldn't revisit it again despite it being a wonderful series.
I personally wouldn't have minded if this series had more episodes because truthfully I would have loved if it did. I however want to say that Janice Wu and especially Dai Xu did a wonderful job, and their acting combined carried the entire show (at least for me). To be honest, I would also have liked to see Veronique a little bit more than the times she did appear because I loved her personality. In regards, to Eric Yang I do have to say that I wasn't necessarily impressed with his character. He just seemed sort of there, somewhat unpleasant, and I have no idea why I was expecting some backstory to explain his dullness. I'm also not trying to discredit his acting in anyway as I am not familiar with his work, so perhaps his character was just written like that. I've never been one to ask for additional seasons to a series, but this show could actually benefit from one. It's also important that I mention the main feature for me was the last thirty seconds to two minutes of the show that went into depth with explaining how chinese law works, which was sometimes based in accordance with what was covered within the episode (in terms of cases). A unique approach as opposed to just citing the article onscreen. (9.5/10)
one of the most depressing series i've seen. the show is essentially misery porn. like, the more you watch the worse the conditions get. i watched this show all in one day several years ago, and by the time it finished i was so emotionally drained. if i remember correctly i even cried towards the end.
I remember seeing the first two episodes of Class of Lies back in 2019, but I ended up dropping the series because I was already watching another show at the time. I should probably go back, and finish it now that I've gotten better at seeing multiple shows at once. So, thank you for this little article and for reminding me about it in general.
the relationship i have with this show makes me laugh. i often felt like i was forcing myself to continue to watch it because ocn is one of my favorite networks, and because i admire lee joon hyuk's acting. the truth is i put too much into thinking this was going to be beyond my expectations since i hyped it up so much prior to when it aired due to the two reasons i mentioned above. once it aired, those expectations just fell flat. i would have dropped it, but since i had already seen numerous of episodes i just stuck it through. at least, it ends today lol.
