finally finished the 8 eps, the transition from xiaolan being kinda prickly to her 'mom' at first to now where shes always going 'Ma', linking arms, being clingy warms my heart 🥲 also to anyone feeling like this drama is on LTE speed, that's cause we're actually roughly 600 chapters into the novel already 🤣🤣🤣 i guess they sped through the college exam prep to college era to focus on all the businesses later unlike the novel where it was all happening a loooot more simultaneously. novel xiaolan's schedule was JAM PACKED 🤣

I'm only up to 900 chapters of the 2000+ but so far they've only had 2 major fights, no breakup (yet?). so far they fights are usually due to differences in life perspectives and then they reflect on it and try to improve so they can grow together. the other one that wasnt really due to an argument was zhou cheng's mom initially disapproving of xiao lan (she doesnt really look down on her background but more like shes not sure if she will be good for him since shes so independent and hes too whipped that hes even more impulsive around her) so she does ask xiao lan to leave him shortly after she meets his family but xiao lan asks zhou cheng what he thinks and they agree to stay together and xiao lan just makes more effort to show shes as invested in the relationship and his mom gradually starts to love her too)

1st mild fight was still a bit early in the relationship and they were not on the same page, zhou cheng being ready to marry her the moment he met her and xiao lan just wanting to date til after she graduates 🤣 since she still has so many things she wants to do in life. so if he kept coming on too strong she wouldve ran away, but since she does keep falling deeper for him it naturally resolves on its own since the more she gets invested, she starts to put more equal effort then he starts to feel more secure too.

2nd major fight...not sure if theyd bother incorporating since they already changed zhou cheng's job from military man to lawyer. but in the novel, a comrade dies saving his life during a mission (although he's probably just repaying too cause zhou cheng also saved him during previous mission). zhou cheng understandably goes into a mental rut, and borders on overcompensating his guilt by taking responsibility of the comrade's family + wife. the comrade's wife turns out super entitled so it gets to a point that xiao lan needed zhou cheng to put boundary, have a bottome line (shes not against helping but like she started to worry that it was gonna be like that for the rest of their lives, like he was already about ready to give away a courtyard house in the wife's name). so xiao lan almost broke up with him if he couldnt figure out where his boundary was, where things were going, its almost like shes gonna be sharing zhou cheng with that comrade's wife if he has to cater to the wife's every whim due to his guilt. he digs deeper into the situation and understands what xiao lan means so they still dont break up.

The sheer volume honestly scared me for so long then i randomly tried reading sometime last week thinking i could just stop if it didnt grab me but it's surprisingly really keeping my attention so far, im almost 750 chapters in. The body she goes in is a middle school dropout so you basically follow her from when she applies to be highschool student (while juggling random businesses from the ground up) to basically her graduating 5 yr university. It feels like you really follow her rise from the ashes with her mom so before I knew it I've gotten pretty invested in seeing them succeed. Xiaolan is also a pretty good character to follow since shes smart, if theres any setback she can figure out how to solve it so i find it has a good balance of that push/pull nothing would ever frustrate you for a long time, if someones kind to her she repays it 100x but if someone crosses her she'll also repay that 100x, girl knows how to pick her battles 🤣 the romance is also pretty sweet although its more like just sprinkled in, ML is super down bad for her lmaooo i guess its sort of like a he fell first then they both fell harder 🤣 also be prepared to be told xiaolan is BEAUTIFUL and DROP DEAD GORGEOUS a million times 🤣 its basically her blessing and curse 🤣

meanwhile im the opposite, actually kinda worried if 36 eps will be enough to cover almost 2400 chapters of the original novel lmaooo

im only 700 chapters into the novel so for now i only know how she ended up in 1983 🤣 plus we dont know how much the drama will change things too. i kinda took a peek of the last chapter of the main text and it seems like it was still in 1988 but there were still 200 more extra additional? chapters after that but i didnt wanna spoil myself more 🤣

I've been reading the novel and I'd say the drama actually tried to be very faithful to it. A lot of it is almost word for word looool so if there a some scenes that got slightly changed or cut (mostly near the end), I would probably just blame it on budget constraints/episode cuts/censoring. As for Gao Shen though, I think there was a chapter in the novel that gave him a very short backstory/flashback which wasn't shown in the drama but the whole thing with the golden pool and shadow puppet was 100% the same in the novel.

Oh no I meant the BTS, is there a longer video for it or its just that short clip. It's kinda hard to search for bts vids since im not familiar with the language. And even the ones I do come across they seem weird cause the bts scenes are mixed with recap from the actual eps or like random clips of the actors from their other shows looool im pretty new to cdramas so im not sure if thats just how it usually is. im used to kdramas where bts scenes are like 5-15 mins of pure bts scenes loool
