Also, isn’t this content a collaboration with China (it is written here)? So why are all the judges Korean?…
I believe that the show’s rights were bought over by the Korean networks so the Chinese end actually may not be able to place a representative on the judging panel. However, given how they marketed this as a global show, they can put KPop idols (e.g. Minnie from Gidle to represent the thai end, the8 from seventeen for the chinese end) from existing groups as mentors.
Honestly, the whole situation was incredibly disappointing to see. This was so to say one of the worst signal song tests I have ever seen out of 5 survival shows I’ve watched. There were trainees collapsing on their knees, crying. Even those trainees who were fortunate enough to get out of the situation cried for the boys who were still stuck dancing endlessly. I was honestly disturbed by Lee Seunggi’s comments about how idols have to sing 30 songs in a row to entertain their audience. Firstly, he is not even an idol, I don’t believe he has the experience to make that remark. Secondly, idols performing 30 songs straight is true. However, in the context of boy groups and idol groups nowadays, in between the dancing songs are audience interactions when the idols get to drink water, catch their breath before starting again. Those segments last for more than 5 minutes, which is much more than the breaks the boys were given, I believe. Additionally, not every song performed is a song that they go all out to dance to. There are songs with mere walking or sitting on chairs. Lee Seunggi’s response exhibited a lack of recognition of this and a lack of knowledge of the current industry’s habits. This is not meant to criticise him but rather shed light on the sheer lack of consideration for the trainees in this mission. As much as I do respect him as an artist, it was simply a dissatisfactory situation and response. To say more, Yinghao was made to feel bad for his goodwill. He had every right to help others in such a distressing scenario, when everyone was tired, stressed and crying. Yes, Lee Seunggi’s comment that Yinghao’s actions disrupted the other trainees’ flow was true but the other end of the argument that highlighted the pure exhaustion the trainees were facing was completely ignored. This signal song test was incredibly disappointing, along with the grading system. It could have been done in a better way, the way the interim tests were done. It would have ended up like every other survival show on this planet but at least this situation could have been avoided. This test seemed so poorly planned and thought out. They didn’t even test the boys’ singing. Honestly, the only good thing about this was that the boys stayed strong together and we got to see their camaraderie in the way they supported each other.
