Title Big Mouth Spoiler
My guesses for who is the big mouse:
Miho
Miho's dad
Mayor
Mayor's wife
Jerry
Soon Tae (ML's friend)
That one prison guard (Gan Soon Cheol)
Chang ho

That one prison guard gets more screen time than the other guards. He probably has a past with big mouse or is associated with big mouse. My guesses are that he has a past with Big Mouse but didn't get to meet him in real life or see his face.

Ik a lot of people are saying that Chang ho might have split personality disorder but i think that maybe his brain was messed with after drinking the cofffe or during surgery. Bc if he had split personality disorder, he wouldnt hide the evidence in such an easy place?

i love how you’re explaining it but people still don’t understand. it’s sick that racism like this still gets ignored just because it’s in fiction

U know that ppl in Africa mock east asian and categorize all of them as chinese ppl There's so many racist shows…
Fighting racism with more racism is not the answer. There is a lot of anti-blackness in the Asian community and there is asian hate in the black community but it doesn’t mean you say stuff like this and defend racism. The show is showing harmful stereotypes and it isn’t right

Its still wrong and gives stereotypes. SK has a huge poverty problem they couldve done it there but ofc they dont…
The lion king song, a foreigner going there to dig up water, kid not having shoes. These stereotypes play a huge role on how Africa is perceived which is why it’s so important to clarify.

Yes there are rich and poor parts in Africa but the media only shows the poor parts which lead people to generalise the whole continent as “dirty, unhealthy and uncivilised”.

There are better ways to help and bring awareness than to portray it like this.

A lot of Koreans believe Africa is a country. A lot of them also believe ALL of them are poor and dirty people who don’t have access to food and water.

So when they see a black person, they ask stereotypical questions and make micro-aggressive statements. This leads them to ask questions like “did u starve in Africa?” “did u drink clean water?”.

Yes there are parts of Africa that are suffering and yes we need to bring awareness but show all sides of Africa. Don’t only show the poverty side because it leads them to believe Africans are dirty and leads them to not see them as people or see them as below them.

When they see media portray Africa like this, they believe it and this affects black people because they get weird looks and questions when they’re in Korea.

Yes bring awareness but do it in a non stereotypical and respectful way.

Yes lmao I was born there.

Exactly, there are parts of Africa that are rich and parts that are under poverty. But when the media ONLY shows the poverty parts, it creates stereotype that affect black people. “Do they have water in Africa?” “I thought all of you lived in huts” “Do you starve?” “Did you drink dirty water?” “Do you carry water on your heads?”

Questions like this are asked because of how the media shows Africa as ONLY a poor country with no food and water. Ofc there’s poverty all over the world and there’s a lot of poverty in Africa, but it shouldn’t be only shown as a poor place. They don’t see Africans as proper people, they love to think Africans aren’t smart and they’re unhealthy because of these stereotypes. It makes people believe Africans are dirty and stuff like that. If the media is going to show Africa, show both sides. Not only the side that gets you views, likes, and comments.

Yes we need to raise awareness but there are better ways than just generalising the whole of Africa as “poor and uncivilised”.

I hope you get what I’m saying and why it’s important to not create stereotypes like these.

Korea is not a very multi cultural place and when they see stuff like that on TV, they believe it. Media showing Africans as “dirty” just benefit racist stereotypes.

There are better ways to bring awareness to issues like poverty.

I don’t want to explain anymore to you but if you want, you can watch these videos to learn.

You don’t need to watch the videos but if you’re willing to learn why me and other people are hurt by the stereotypes this drama had then you can watch them. Also FYI I’m not American so idk why you assumed. If you chose to be ignorant then there’s nothing else I can do

It kind of does make a difference because you're a different race and live in a different country. Our perspectives are different so unless you've been in my shoes and faced my experiences, don't tell me how to feel.

You're white so don't try to speak over black voices that are raising their concerns. I really don't need a white person to explain something to me like this even when me and other POC have said what we find it uncomfortable how they portrayed the ML as some hero who made water appear in Africa like he's a savior.

Yeah the vibe is definitely very off. They don't do a good job in bringing awareness.

I've explained myself so many times and you still don't seem to see the problem.
There is no point talking to a blank wall. It's always "listen to voices of people of color" until a person of color raises their concerns and we're always ignored or seen as dramatic.

I'm tired of explaining so you can think whatever you want to think but at the end of the day, you cannot deny that it was not a good move to include Africa in this show.

That is the problem though. If they haven't researched a topic fully, why write about it?
Most Koreans think that Africa is a country and not a continent.
Whenever Europe is mentioned, they mention UK, France (mostly Paris), Germany, Russia, Italy. But whenever Africa is mentioned they group the whole continent together.
The drama shows a Korean man going to Africa just to help them find water. We don't need their pity. Don't need the white savior complex.

Also I agree, Korea in general lacks a lot of education when it comes to other cultures and they need to do better. There are lots of misconceptions so it might lead the writers and audience to believe these stereotypes about Africa.

I really wish they could do better and educate themselves on topic like these. I was watching public experiments and most Koreans did not even know what they were saying about foreigners was racist. The stereotypes they make about black people is very wrong but they don't seem to get it because most of them haven't experienced racism themselves since Korea is not a very multi-cultural country. They might not know its racist but the impact has a bigger role than the intent (impact>intent).

They really need to do better since Kpop and Kdramas are getting more popular so they need to learn how to respect international audience if they want support from international fans.

Stop excusing these behaviours. They didn't even bring awareness to the topic properly. As a person of color, we're sick of being portrayed like this everytime. This isnt the first time where this has happened. The scenes were stereotypical. Maybe you're a new kdrama watcher but this has been going on for a veryyyy long time and everytime someone speaks up about it, people like you act like its not a big deal. I don't know if you're a person of colour but if you're not, please don't speak over us. If you are a person of color, learn to understand that people have different views, opinions and perspective. What hurts me might not hurt you but you still need to understand why it makes such a big impact.

You have clearly chosen to remain ignorant. It's better for individuals who don't have the same lived experiences to keep silent, listen, and learn when people affected by a problem express their concerns and frustrations.

This reinforces the perception that "Africa requires foreign aid," which we have expressed our dissatisfaction with. It isn't simply a one-time occurrence; it occurs repeatedly, and we have grown tired of it. You don't have to explain yourself if you don't understand something.

They only use Africa because it's convenient; it's the media's propaganda that you've been fed, and you believe it and think it's fine, so you don't see the overall picture.

Joseon Exorcist was literally cancelled after 2 eps bc of "historical distortion" . Because their costumes and food were chinese and not Korean.
Snow drop was also nearly cancelled.

So why does Africa always have to be a punching bag and why do people like you always become ignorant when people speak up about issues like this.

I think that the part about Africa was not a good move on the part of the scriptwriter but this script had to…
Yess exactly. This is not the first time that kdramas have displayed people of color like this. As a POC myself, it makes me so disappointed how these things keep going on even when people speak up about it. They don't listen to international fans and K-netz don't speak on topic like these because they're unaware. If they want to be popular internationally, they need to learn how to respect international fans. Its annoying because they should know better. If you're going to display a serious topic, atleast do it properly by stating the country and not generalizing the whole continent.

How did you manage to talk so much but manage to say nothing at all...

First of all, generalizing negatively has a bigger impact than generalizing positively.
All of Africa isn't poor but there are parts that are poor. If 50% of Africa is below the poverty line then the other 50% is not. Also I never said Africa is not poor so I didn't generalize it as "rich". Generalizing is bad in general but generalizing something positively is better than generalizing negatively because the negative impact is larger.

South Korea also has a huge poverty problem but it isn't labelled as a "poor country".

Ofc we're going to watch the drama but bringing awareness to issues like this is important especially in the entertainment industry where stereotypes like these are taken lightly even when the impact is large.

Shows like this make people believe that all of Africa is poor, huts, no water. Also they didn't even state the country they were helping. If they stated the country, then it would be better but they just said Africa which is a large continent.

"White savior complex" was used as an example. Obviously they're not white but the word fits into this context.

If you still don't understand why it is bad after this then I'm really going to assume you're just being ignorant because stereotypes like these do more harm than good to Black people and have more affect than you think.

Its still wrong and gives stereotypes. SK has a huge poverty problem they couldve done it there but ofc they dont want their country to be displayed as "poor". They could even use a korean child for the relationship between Luca and GTS but no they had to use a black child because its so important for them to display their performative activism and white savior complex.

Every single west drama calls it "Africa" why are these people bitching about when this happens in kdrama? This…
People criticize the West as well! We're just calling out how wrong it is to still be doing this. Kdramas/Asian dramas don't get a pass just because the West has also done it. Both are wrong so delete your comment because it is extremely ignorant and takes away from the actual issue. There is poverty in SK, they shouldve show that because the poverty there is HUGEEE. But ofc they dont want to display their country as "poor" so they target Africa like always. Just because the west does it, doesnt mean the east should do it.
