based on what we know about Han Yan, I doubt she will be happy with that proposal he offered. UGH so frustrating cause it's clear the man is in love with her but I guess he's trying to protect himself and her because it seems like he doesn't have much time left esp after the coughing up blood scene and the ill male lead tag on this drama. Either way I'm sensing that tomorrows ep will be her distancing herself from him as she feels like all he wants is a figurehead wife and she's annoyed that all he thinks she wants is to be the noblest lady. LIKE YUN XI WAKE UP PLS she values love, care and loyalty and that's literally what she wants not some empty power struggle marriage that mirrors her parents relationship!!
Anyways I'm loving the way this drama is going about the romance plot because they both have their own motivations for marriage and are trying to play to their strengths to appeal to the other but seemingly ignoring the most basic foundation of marriage: their own feelings. EEEKKK CANT WAIT FOR MORE!!
Maybe i'm weird but i genuinely dont find this show depressing. I know for sure that there are a lot of parallels in tone and mood to Mister which is obvious because its the same screenwriter (who i am now obsessed with because her work is *chef's kiss*) but the show itself feels so raw that its not depressing to me, just a super intimate glimpse into flawed human beings (all the characters of this show feel too real). I adore how it feels so awkward at times, the inner musings that Gu and Mi jeong share when they describe how much they hate people because I'm sure that all of us have felt that jaded at one point or another. It feels authentic and humanistic but at the same time shows how fake and callous humans can act for the sake of others or when we try to convince ourselves that we're something we're not.
So tbh, I don't want a happy ending. Yes, it would be nice but if this show stays true to its soulful nature, its probably gonna be an ending where the siblings exist to the best of their ability. Not much changes and they go through the motions and find the small things that make them content or like Mi jeong said 'the 5 mins of happiness in a day'. Gu doesn't desire that, all he wants is oblivion so I don't see that much of him in Mi jeong's future although I hope he doesn't pass away but it would be within his character's nature to do so though. Or maybe Gu finds a different kind of oblivion as he works tirelessly on a random farm in the middle of nowhere and just lives the rest of his days like that.
I get why people like happy endings but the realist in me appreciates endings where people just continue living, nothing grand like a wedding or perfect love to keep them going but just the desire to live with their reality and make the most of it. I think that's what the screenwriter does so well, is she gives these characters dialogues that hit you because it feels like its been strung out of your soul and I think thats what makes this drama so beautiful.
theory time: Pi's lover is Bun ok's sister. If not lover, then 'roommates or just friends' like how history likes to describe it lol. It would make sense as to why the previous headmistress hated the idea of Pi becoming the new headmistress as she probably knew that Pi had a lesbian lover and this is the 80s' Korea so that would not have gone down well.
It would also explain how Ahn Kyung hui was able to blackmail and threaten Pi into being his informant i.e. if she doesn't do what he says then he can make her into a north Korean spy just like he did to her lover and its not like the ANSP aren't guilty of targeting people who aren't communists i.e. they target student protesters, reporters, anyone who they can conveniently get rid of. No wonder Pi hates the ANSP more than the north Korean spies because if they really did make her lover a North Korean spy and kill her just because they loved each other then she must despise the ANSP and maybe even bugged the dormitory to protect the girls from being caught i.e. yeong min protesting, eun young ro hiding soo ho.
Also, the photo only shows Pi on 1 side so I'm guessing she keeps it folded so that no one can know that she treasures a photo of her with a woman.
It also makes sense as to why Pi continuously protects Bun ok despite all the shady and downright sociopathic things she does, because she probably feels indebted to Bun ok's sister because she made it out alive but maybe Bun ok's sister wasn't so lucky. Or she could have sold out her sister and saved her own life which makes her even more determined to protect Bun ok.
Obviously, this theory only works if the ANSP even cared enough to screw with Pi and her lover or if her lover aka Bun ok's sister really did go to Pyongyang, possibly with Pi and they wanted to frame them both for being spies.
its obvious JK is faking it, at the end of 106 she even said, "Joo hae ran knows that Bong seon hwa is her daughter", which she knows as she learned that within the 4 years time that she 'forgot'.
Everyone is rightfully obsessed with Junho because how could you not be but I keep wanting a prequel with the King’s story, Consort Yeon and head court lady Jo cause that shit sounds scandalous as hell.
Synopsis: A former slave turned King faces unexpected trials as he rules a nation. The most difficult of situations are from the woman he loves and the woman who loves him.
King Young jo rose from humble beginnings and amidst rumours of his bloodthirsty nature, he became a king his subjects feared as much as they respected. His sovereignty was a subject of turmoil but the women in his life, both red sleeved and beautiful, bring him the most distress.
Consort Yeon has won the heart of the king but at the cost of her dearest friend. Believed by many as a naive, innocent girl, she thoroughly hides her knowledgeable nature and quick thinking. Consort Yeon strives to live a graceful life in servitude to the very red sleeved woman who she knows as family. Doing so may be costly as the King demands her full attention and refuses to come second to her allegiance with the court ladies. Will she be able to use her cunning to compromise with the King who loves her or will palace politics prove too much her?
Head Court lady Jo waits everyday. She is strong willed and merciless when it comes to her duties. Her devotion to all women in red sleeves is unparalleled yet pales in comparison to her devotion to the man she loves: the king. He made promises that she will hold him to whether he is willing to or not because Lady Jo knows that he has to love her. After everything she sacrificed to make him king, he will come back to her. But first, she has to make her best friend see sense.
Both Vincenzo and Happiness has romance in it, not much but it's there you can clearly see it. If anything this…
I agree that both dramas mentioned have hints of romance in them but my point is that those dramas dont have a male lead who oversteps boundaries. The ml in this drama doesnt respect the fl’s independence when she has made it clear on multiple occasions that she still sees him as her student and nothing more. Romance isnt the issue for this drama, the way its presented is, id be much more comfortable with a drama that showed 2 people who cared about each other and maybe 1 of the 2 being in love with the other then getting together when they’re hardships are over, preferably when they both have had time away from their issues. This drama going the full blown romance doesnt fit with the themes or the characters imo.
I would be enjoying this drama a lot more if Seung yoo still kept his unrequited love going strong and doing his best to support yoon soo instead of crossing all her boundaries and inserting himself into her life. At this point i.e. ep 11, any loveline between these 2 feels forced and super unnecessary. I'm a sucker for romance just like anyone on MDL but this really doesn't feel like the right setting for romance. Maybe if they did a 'my mister' vibe instead and showed that there could be more for these characters in the future rather than have yoon soo falling for seung yoo in the present. I genuinely think this drama should've just gone for the no romance tag route and then it would've increased in popularity especially cause no romance couples are pretty popular i.e. vincenzo, happiness.
Maybe I've read too much Wattpad or have been watching all the right kinds of dramas but I am LITERALLY begging the writer to give Tae seo an unrequited love storyline with Joyi. The villain being head over heels for the heroine truly is my kryptonite. Please, writer: DO NOT waste this golden opportunity!
I think the king has known all along that the CP is actually his daughter in disguise. The queen must have told him before she died and ever since then he distanced himself and is adamant that the CP doesnt marry and also favours his real son. Also, 90% sure that the body guard is either the son or a relative of the royal perceptor that was wrongfully framed and killed by CP grandpa.
My blood literally boils whenever I see HJ and WJ either together or apart. The audacity they both have just really pisses me off. Seriously considering dropping if this is some disgusting 'lovers find each other again' storyline because f that and f this gross couple. Alo GHW, sweetie, are you mental? Forcing your love and affection on someone is just as pathetic as his behaviour. For the love of god, please end up getting your revenge against both of them instead of making him stay with you. So cringe, I cant. At this point I'll be glad if GHW and HJ husband fall in love and have an affair or even HJ brother with GHW.
Severely disappointed because I loved Just between lovers and was hoping the writer could recreate her magic here. Imma come back and check on the comments at the ep 10 mark to either convince myself to watch this again or remind myself why I'm glad I didn't.
I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one hoping that this show is NOT centred on the men. I really want Hae won's revenge to be about her + most likely her paintings and not the potential scumbag unconscious in Ireland.
I like this drama but the first 2 eps feel like a completely different show compared to the recent eps. There's so many consistencies like the freakin watch he has to get back from her and what happened to her personality trait of being so focussed on art that she would forget to eat. I swear the writers spent so much time emphasising this I thought it would be important i.e. how they get together but no, neither the watch or the lack of eating means anything now. Also, I wish they would give Kwon yul's character depth because the writers are just setting him up as this desperado who lives for the FL and has no real personality.
I have a feeling the man in the photo is someone he worked with in Seoul or maybe a close friend and an accident could have occurred which led to the mans death. DS probably blames himself for the death so he retreated back to his hometown to live a life in service of others without forming attachments because he's dealing with either survivors guilt or guilt for not being able to save the man.
Judging by the ep 5 preview, theres a high chance that Sa ra is actually Se Jong's mum because Se jong is adopted and Sa Ra also met with this random man who freaked her out. Also, Young Ae seems like the type to take in her best friends child because her best friend aka Sa Ra knows that she can't take care of Se jong due to her not being married and not having her own place to stay. It also makes sense that she acts like Young guk's wife and se jong's mum too.
this is the kind of drama that should've been made in 2010-2016 because its vibe screams historical dramas of those years. Even more so, now that another commenter said the author that wrote this wrote moon who embraces the sun and sungkyun scandal because those dramas are good to watch for beginners and were great at the time they came out but this just feels out of place for me in my drama watch list currently. I don't look forward to it and there are so many moments where I think, 'ok this doesn't make sense even in the fantasy world so imma just leave my braincells out of this' and continue watching. At least its mindless entertainment.
Even the characters and their cliche childhood story as well as the ML's decision to forget about his past love to get his revenge is super overdone. I feel like the only way I can enjoy historical dramas are if the premise is different and the plot makes sense e.g. the crowned clown, 100 days my prince and moon lovers. There is just too much dwelling on the past here which just ain't it for me.
Or maybe I should just avoid the dramas this author's books inspire cause I barely watched moon that embraces the sun and I dropped sungkyun scandal as well.
There was a comment saying that MM will want to die, which makes a lot of sense because at the end of the preview for episode 3 he says, 'Become the first human to love me', which is almost him asking her to end his life if we consider how the contract works. If you think about it, even if the world ends, he'll continue to exist because he is 'the end' or 'the last' as he says it so the world ending won't cease his existence of causing doom, the only way he can escape his fate of doom is if he ceases to exist. The best way to do that is if Dong Kyung loves him the most the moment before her death.
You can really tell this drama is going for Goblin vibes but still has a unique charm of its own; I hope both leads don't end up dying because I'm already obsessed with the characters in this.
Lmao so ok its obvious that Jun young was going to be interested in YS cause they always have a love triangle in long fam dramas and plus there would be added angst from JH about Jun young being a rich boi when JH comes from a poor family, the usual love triangle stuff. Anyway, ive been waiting for this to happen ever since Joon young was told to work part time at the restaurant but now that theyre actually making it a thing i wish they wouldnt lol. I mean i love drama and angst and nothing does that better than a rich SML but this mans cannot act to save his life and he’s so awkward in the recent ep around YS, i literally cant. I guess hes never been interested in a girl or he just has 0 interest in the actress cause the way he’s portraying instant love is so cringe.
Eeek whatever lol im still gonna eat up the angst that his presence will cause
