When life gives you tangerines- A Story That Stays with You

I had no idea that this series would become my all-time favorite. Every second, every line was worth it.

What made this drama truly special was how it portrayed a person’s life—from their childhood, with milk teeth, to their old age, with gray hair. There were no villains; the only adversary was life itself. It beautifully captured the joys, pains, and struggles of parents and children without any exaggeration. It showed that love and life must go on despite all obstacles.

It showed us no matter how many people love us—our friends, lovers, or even our children—the ones who love us the most and the most selflessly will always be our parents.
With time, we might start taking them for granted—not because we don’t love or value them, but because, no matter what happens, even if the whole world is against us, our parents will always be there, holding our hands tightly. Watching the characters grow old hit me hard. It made me realize that one day, my parents will also be in that phase, and I should cherish them better.

Beyond parental love, what moved me the most was the love between Gwan Shik and Ae Sun. Gwan Shik loved Ae Sun from the time he was nine until he was seventy. He had nothing to offer her except his love and care, yet he stood by her unwaveringly. Even in the midst of poverty and the harshness of life, his smile and words turned her world into spring. And in his final moments, all he wanted to see was her smile.

Ae Sun, in her own way, loved him just as deeply. She was strong-willed, bold, and sometimes stubborn, but she cherished Gwan Shik more than words could express. Their love wasn’t built on grand gestures or wealth ,it was built on unwavering companionship. Through hardships, he was her safe place, and even though she didn’t always say it aloud, her actions spoke for her. Their love wasn’t about perfection or fleeting passion; it was about endurance. It was about choosing each other every day, no matter how difficult life got.

This series showed love in its purest, rawest forms—between parents and children, between lovers, between people just trying to survive. It wasn’t just a drama; it was a reminder of what truly matters in life. And that’s why it will stay with me forever.
