I agree that css should be punished for what she did and her stubbornness. .those are daughters of nobles and high ranking officials, if they would retaliate it will cause not only the cheng family but their whole clan to be severely punished or even annihilated..but the military punishment is bit much since they already know that css is frail, the mother could have decided to go with another type of punishment and not proceed with the beating..the mother really have a serious problem in communicating and expressing herself properly to sshow that she cares
