no the palace was not based on any novel, but it is rumored (very possibly true) that the writer copied BBJX 's original novel and released it before BBJX. thats why the writer for the palace has a really bad reputation.

ummmm the thing is the sequel does get cliched. and the main girl cried way too much. Even Ruoxi herself didn't cry that much.

Sorry to say that, but you will probably be disappointed by the sequel

I think the author of Scarlet Heart (adapted from a novel) has taken part in "Perfect Couple" as a someone related to writing, but she did not write perfect couple. I think she came up with ideas or some sort.

One of those dramas which have great characters, great details (OHHH I like those aphorisms so much), but do not end up well because of cliched wrong storyline

A lot of people really like this drama but I have to say what I need to say. This drama contains a number of good actors who can act but show no good performance because of the limits on the character. Not to mention how tu su never changes his expressions. Qingxue is so plain. I hated Xuejian from Chinese Paladin (played by the same actress), but even Xuejian shows character and Qingxue has no character. She is seriously the only female lead I know that appears a lot but just ISN'T THERE. This drama has about 50 episodes full with really slow pacing. characters can just talk for 10 minutes which can be shortened to 2. But if you like chemistry between males, go for it.

2 dramas are adapted from different novels from the same author... yeah you can see why... but technically xin yue is more likeable than ruo xi
