The road to splendor was long, rocky, and definitely not an easy one.

What a roller coaster! This drama was honestly exhausting at times, but it also left me with such a huge sigh of relief by the end. Honestly, this is easily one of my top 3 dramas of the year.

I really miss their Ganlin days, when everything was simpler and sweeter. Their dynamics changed so much after arriving in the capital. One problem after another, and at some point, you could really see that they had lost their spark. Thankfully, they eventually worked things out and came back stronger. They honestly have one of the best communication dynamics in Cdramas. Their love feels so equal. They stand by each other and always have each other's backs.

I also really liked the political storyline. Cdramas can sometimes get too complicated with all the political schemes, but this one kept its main conflict clear and easy to follow. I could also understand the Emperor's position. Sometimes, sacrifices have to be made for the greater good. Still, I couldn't help feeling sad for everyone who had to become a sacrifice along the way. And WHY DOES EVERYTHING HAVE TO FALL ON ZHAO LING? Give my man a break! Also, that little stunt the Emperor pulled involving Zhao Ling and Tingyun... I honestly didn't see that coming.

My only real complaint was how much screen time the Young Master and Young Madam Yu got. Their storyline frustrated me because I never really saw them as worthy rivals. Both of them seemed insecure and didn't really know what they wanted for themselves. It was such a contrast to Zhao Ling and Tingyun, who knew what they stood for and could stand on their own. But I eventually understood what the writer was trying to show through these two couples. They were constantly controlled by their family, while their parents kept using them (especially their son) as shields to protect themselves from the consequences of their own actions. I actually ended up feeling quite bad for them.

But despite all my complaints, I was pretty happy with how things ended. The resolutions felt human, everyone important got their closure, and nothing felt unnecessarily rushed. And seeing their little family back in Ganlin? That was such a lovely way to end their journey.

And the cinematography? Absolutely beautiful. The autumn forest, the golden leaves, the desert scenes, the colours and framing... I kept replaying certain scenes just to appreciate how gorgeous they looked. I also loved the subtle sound effects and the OST.

Would I rewatch the whole thing? Probably not. But I'd happily go back to all their sweet moments in Ganlin.

This story deserved more room to breathe

Honestly, this drama was such a breath of fresh air. The first half really had me hooked. The pacing was fast, and the story was interesting enough to keep me on edge. But from the halfway point onwards, things got waayy too fast. Everything started feeling so disjointed, like we were jumping from one scene to another without enough time to process what was happening. And one thing that really annoyed me was how many important scenes were cut and turned into paid content. Some of those moments were actually important to the story!

The second half was nowhere near as good as the first. I really wish Jundai had stayed longer, and the ending... I honestly have no words. Everything felt so rushed, like the writers suddenly remembered they had a bunch of storylines to wrap up with only 30 minutes per episode. At some point, I could only laugh. I've definitely seen worse endings, but I can't lie, I was still pretty disappointed with how everything turned out.

I also had questions about several characters. General Qi, why did you even try to pursue your best friend's wife? That's just morally messed up. And while I understand this is a female-centric drama, I wish they had explored Lu Zhuo's character a little more. I feel like he had so much more potential, but the limited runtime didn't give him enough room to develop.

Wei Rao's character development was also a bit questionable for me. At certain points, I genuinely wondered what made her different from Jundai. I wish the drama had explored that contrast more instead of rushing through her development.

Honestly, I don't think this drama needed to be limited to 30 episodes. It deserved 40. Not everything needs to be rushed just to fit a shorter episode count. There was a good story here, but the execution in the second half really let it down.

A rewatch-worthy dose of butterflies

I swear, I could watch this drama over and over again and never get bored, especially during their lovey-dovey era. Everything about them was just SO CUTE.

My only issue was the beginning. The younger Sang Zhi part made me feel a little uncomfortable, and I really wish they had picked a slightly older actress for that role. I actually followed other viewers' suggestions and skipped straight to high school Sang Zhi, which worked much better for me.

I fell so hard for chen zheyuan in this drama. Jiaxu Ge is ridiculously handsome. And our Sang Zhi!!! We got to see her grow up from a little girl into someone who can finally stand up for herself and her man. I absolutely loved seeing that side of her.

Honestly, I don't think I'll ever get tired of rewatching this. It's sweet, comforting, gives me all the butterflies, and makes me want to fall in love all over again.

A slow burn that sometimes burns too slowly

I actually enjoyed this one! There's a lot to love, especially the romance. The chemistry between the leads was definitely there, and I loved the sparks between them. Their sweet moments were easily some of my favourite parts.

And of course, Sang Yan deserves his own appreciation. He's seriously one of the greenest flag male leads ever. The way he quietly loved Wen Yifan and waited for her for years just melted my heart. WHY CAN'T WE HAVE MORE MEN LIKE HIM?

As for Wen Yifan, I do understand that she has her own trauma to deal with, and healing definitely takes time. I'm not expecting her to get over everything overnight. But still, I sometimes struggled to understand her decisions and reactions. I wish her character had a bit more depth and that we got to see more from her side beyond her trauma.

The plot itself was actually interesting, but the execution could've been better. I don't mind slow burns, but sometimes this felt a little TOO slow. There were scenes I could skip without feeling like I'd missed anything important. Maybe it's the pacing or the directing, but somehow the story just kept dragging in certain parts. I also expected more from the conflict resolution because the payoff felt a little anticlimactic.

BUT THE OST!!! Loved it. The songs were so good and fit the drama perfectly.

Still, a good watch overall. The romance and chemistry kept me invested, and Sang Yan definitely made it even better.

A feast for the eyes and butterflies for the heart

One of the most visually pleasing modern dramas I've watched! The cinematography is absolutely gorgeous, and the Shanghai scenery made me want to book a ticket there immediately.

My biggest complaint is that the plot seemed to lose its direction somewhere in the middle. The story started with such an interesting concept, especially the Republic-era VR game, but I felt like that aspect gradually took a backseat. I honestly wish they had explored the game world more and given us more interactions and storylines within it. It had so much potential, and I found myself wanting more whenever we got those scenes. The climax also felt a little anticlimactic. After everything that had happened, I expected a stronger payoff, but it was just okay.

BUT THE CHEMISTRY? Absolutely no complaints. Chen Xingxu and Lu Yuxiao were so good together. Their romantic scenes had me swooning, and I've probably rewatched their sweet moments countless times. Chen Xingxu in those Republican-era costumes deserves a special mention because WOW. And Lu Yuxiao was gorgeous, too! I also loved that her character wasn't overly whiny or helpless.

Despite its flaws, this was such a fun and enjoyable watch. One of those modern romances that gives you butterflies without making you cringe.

A slow, emotional journey worth the patience

This drama was emotionally exhausting, and I mean that in the best way possible. I genuinely felt sick and overwhelmed watching everything Chen Yi and Miao Jing had to go through.

It started really strong, but the pacing slowed down quite a bit around the middle episodes. I understand why many people dropped it, especially when some conflicts seemed to repeat themselves. But honestly, isn’t that what healing looks like? Trauma doesn’t disappear overnight, and real healing takes time. I think the drama did a good job portraying that.

Both leads deserve credit for their performances. Melodrama requires a lot of emotional depth and subtle expressions, and I think Song Weilong and Zhang Jingyi really brought their characters to life.

Watching their journey from childhood to adulthood was genuinely rewarding. Definitely a melodrama, and much more impactful than I expected.

A historical drama that has almost everything

My first historical cdrama, and honestly, what a ride! The cinematography was so good. I really loved how the drama managed to balance romance, action, and politics. Although I have to admit, the political storyline was quite complicated, especially with so many characters to keep track of. It took me a while to understand everything, and at some point, it honestly got a little too much. I even skipped some of the political scenes.

I also think there were a bit too many side couples. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed some of their stories, but sometimes they got so much screen time that I just wanted the drama to go back to our main couple. Xie Zheng is definitely one of my favourite male leads. I remember seeing someone say he's even more handsome than Zhang Linghe himself, and honestly, I get it. Tian Xiwei was also such a great choice for Fan Changyu. I loved her acting, and she's so pretty!

One more thing: THE OST! So many good songs, and I still think they deserve way more attention. They really made the drama even better.

Overall, I had such a good time watching this. It had romance, action, great visuals, and a couple I genuinely loved. A pretty solid first historical cdrama for me!

The Romance, The OST, The Visuals… EVERYTHING!

My very first xianxia drama, and what a way to start! I watched this back in August, and I've already rewatched it three times.

Honestly, it took me a little while to get through the first few episodes. I wasn't used to all the fantasy elements, flying around, magic, and all those kamehameha-style moves. But once the story got me hooked, I got so used to everything that I barely noticed how quickly I was getting through the episodes. Before I knew it, I had finished the whole drama!

The cinematography was TOP NOTCH. Everything looked so beautiful, and can we talk about that wedding scene?! Easily one of the most beautiful wedding scenes I've seen in a cdrama. The plot? AMAZING. The cast? LOVE THEM. The chemistry between the leads was just magical. They looked so good together, and I absolutely loved watching them on screen. AND THE OST!!! Genuinely one of the best drama soundtracks for me. It's still part of my daily playlist, and every single song instantly brings back memories of specific scenes. That's how much this drama has stayed with me.

I also love how romance-heavy this drama is. There are so many heart-fluttering and heartwarming moments that made me feel all kinds of things. I honestly can't get enough of them.
