I noticed that too! The trailer portraits XZ a bit softer than in the novel but maybe it's because they don't want to spoil his character.

He's very much like Xie Wei when it comes to possessiveness but he's not unhinged. He's very caring and loves too deeply. He has a childhood trauma and understands love in his own way, which is sometimes unusual. Right now I prefer Xie Zheng over Xie Wei :)

Has anyone read the novel and does anyone recommend reading the novel prior to watching the drama?
I'd say yes. The novel was truly amazing, but if you don't like slow burn, politics and military, I wouldn't start reading it :)

It's pretty well translated, and I loved the pace of the main characters romance. Wasn't too quick or too slow.
