I love fantasy, therefore I always try to watch some episodes of every new xianxia. But I hate the whole lots of lives thing, so I always end up disappointed. They are always the most slow and boring parts of the stories and add nothing of value to it. So in this drama where the FL is not the one passing through the many lives I had high hopes. The first ten or so episodes were so strong, But then the whole lots of lives thing began (with the ML) and unfortunatly the drama got super slow and boring. I'm dropping at ep 18 and it's been a long while that I've been skipping parts as well and nothing important really happens. I hope the CCP makes a law that a drama of the fantasy genre can't have more than twenty episodes each season bc man, they are not working. They drag too much. It's like they are a 10 at the beginning, 3 in the middle, and 7 at the end, what does it mean? that they streched the story too much!!!

This is a classical xianxia story. Very formulaic. You can try to see if you like it, but if you usually don't like xianxias I wouldn't waste my time trying to watch this show.

to be honest i couldn't care less about plot holes after watching dramas for so many years. when you stop to think about they all have lots of them. nowadays the only thing i care about is entertainment

I'm watching Story of Kunning Palace and man, what an amazing voice this actor has. Very beautiful airy and deep. Very calm. Was he trained on theater? Because that voice has ~e m o t i o n s~

This drama has a crazy good fight on ep 22 that surprised me so, so much. It was a tense episode with a tense spy and life or death situation that was a perfect midpoint story-wise, but syncronizing with a midpoint on the characters' arc as well. Everything lined up and it was great -- kudos to the writers. You can see that the directors really wanted to go all in on this episode, and spared no effort on camera angles, choreography fight, and lightning to make it cool. Never expected to see something like this on a romance drama. BRAVO!

I'm on ep 18 right now and is good so far. the pace is not lagging at the middle, and the characters have depth. there is only one problem: the second (or third??) male lead, that yan li actor, is certainly an acquired taste. what a weird face lol. like, i feel he could be a great actor if only he could control his eyes, but he can't change them at all -- like, even when frowning his eye shape is the same. it's freaky lol.

i'm watching kunning and am in awe at how cute she is -- she looks like a living breathing doll at that drama.

and she is a great actress too! just want to add this here bc of some weird comments below. she nailed the polite villainess role.

The ML costume is so good. Finally a xianxia costume that doesn't look like a cheap see through glimmered curtain.

Also, I'm shocked at how good an actor he is.

I love the fantasy on xianxia because it's very dramatic, but I hate the angst fest and the reincarnation trope. I can count on one hand the xianxia I watched until the end.

The ML is not handsome. It makes it hard to tough it up through this boring beginning. I'm dropping it.

i dont want to be a snob but the anime is a thousand times better. not only because the visual world building is better but also because the pace is better. the amazing ost that was present in the anime is nonexistent in the live action version. this might be why the story is less magical in this version. all in all, in the anime the story is more beautiful.

i have a question for those who know about chinese armed forces
are they really that understanding that a soldier can talk back or ask the reasons for a order in front of everyone like yan po yue does? i'm on ep 13 right now and am amazed at how he can behave and everyone is so understanding. i thought military everywhere were awful.
