I'm on ep 18 right now and is good so far. the pace is not lagging at the middle, and the characters have depth. there is only one problem: the second (or third??) male lead, that yan li actor, is certainly an acquired taste. what a weird face lol. like, i feel he could be a great actor if only he could control his eyes, but he can't change them at all -- like, even when frowning his eye shape is the same. it's freaky lol.
I'm a huge fan of Cheng Yi but unfortunately I must be allergic to xianxia dramas. I can't think of one I finished…
I love the fantasy on xianxia because it's very dramatic, but I hate the angst fest and the reincarnation trope. I can count on one hand the xianxia I watched until the end.
i dont want to be a snob but the anime is a thousand times better. not only because the visual world building is better but also because the pace is better. the amazing ost that was present in the anime is nonexistent in the live action version. this might be why the story is less magical in this version. all in all, in the anime the story is more beautiful.
i have a question for those who know about chinese armed forces are they really that understanding that a soldier can talk back or ask the reasons for a order in front of everyone like yan po yue does? i'm on ep 13 right now and am amazed at how he can behave and everyone is so understanding. i thought military everywhere were awful.
on ep 8. it's amazing how little chemistry there is between the leads. their chemistry is so nonexistent it's like they are siblings at most. i dont know why they have this problem but i have noticed that zhao lusi isnt good at roles that arent fun girls.
anyway, the story is a mess, i just watched so long because the male lead is gorgeous, but i'm dropping right now.
the greatest thing about this drama is the family dynamics, and that is only good because there are some amazing actors in this show. The second uncle, the aunt, they are all great. But the grandpa, man... the grandpa was amazing. Oscar level. He was s good that I'm pissed we didn't have more scenes between him and the main character.
All in all, good drama but could be better if the family dynamics were better written and explored because the charm of the story was all in that. When it wasn't the focus anymore the story got stale. Mid part it was gone that thrilling sense of watching OG business leaders molding the future, but this could be because the drama wanted to show that hereditary positions are bad. Also because we know the Financialization of the economy led to our shit present of low wages because of few jobs in the industry sector in most of the world.
Didn't watch the final episode bc I've read the spoilers and this type of ending is not for me. And I'm sad to say but Song Joong Ki wasn't strong enough of an actor for this role. Still love him tho.
First of all: Guo Jia is the most beautiful Chinese man I've ever seen. Which is crazy because I looked for the actors pictures on Google and he wasn't as gorgeous, tho he is still very yummy. I don't know what exactly they did, but whoever dressed and styled him for the role created one of the most beautiful men ever. Congratulations. For real. I paused his scenes to stare at his perfect face and his jaw and his eyes. Incredibly magnetic and charismatic in movement. After staring at him for so long I can only Thank God for creating him. Life is beautiful.
Second: if anyone knows good Chinese sima yi/emperor fics, please share the link with me.
He was awesome as the emperor in The Long Ballad. His facial expressions could convey so much -- he was the best actor there. Also, old but gold, he is a hottie lol
and she is a great actress too! just want to add this here bc of some weird comments below. she nailed the polite villainess role.
Also, I'm shocked at how good an actor he is.
