As far as I know, thisis a novel adaptation and both romance and sport stories were there. I do not think they omit any important plot from the book. Only minor changes. However, to me and up to episode 8, romance is more of a side story to look into main character's life and emotions.

I think he did not want pictures of him and his friends family lead the thugs to important people in his life ... they still could fo and harm tgem but he did it just in case.

I went through so much emotional changes that I can not take another season
