I do not think he wants the phoenix to prolong his life. Not even once he mentioned it. He seems to have accepted it. I think he wants to avenge his wife's death. I just don't get it why the kill phoenix again and again and do not go for a way to finish it at once(And I. trying to see things from his point of view)However his is different. It's not boring. People who think it is fine just didn't comment their opinion. For me this story wakes up soooo many emotions.

In my opinion there were scenes that show their feelings. ML is a calm person who goes by immortal teachings. He keeps calm so for him really micro expressions matters. Also this micro expressions goes with some action. Actually after the day he took her above clouds, you can see a faint smile in his face and a wide smile in FML's face. She also shows some eagerness to interact with him. Then we see ML conflicts, he rejects his feelings during their stay in demon land. And FML's despair of his actions. But after they reaide in the cottage together, you can see his smile while talking to her. He no longer keeps calm and tries to make her happy. After a while he really accept his feelings a d become active (Starts with buying the hair pin) A good example of his new way is when he is in pain at night, yet as soon as he sees the FML he smiles and say he is fine 😊 Also technically, they did not kiss. He fainted before that ... These are my observation, I hope it helps
