Drama introduction:

Many of us often made the assumption .
A world where vitality returns to the dusty palace, and dignity resides on the ownerless throne.
That world we imagine is beautiful and abundant.
Because the tradition we considered boring will mix with a modern sense and look cool, and the history we thought collapsed because it was weak will remain strong and maintain its legacy.

But would it really be like that?

In a world with a king there are also nobles, and in a world with nobles, the laws between nobles and commoners will surely be strict too.
It is not a particularly strange thing either. because humans originally like to hang out with their own kind.

And that structure is always vertical, not horizontal.

But there are also those kinds of people.
people who stand out like an ugly duckling, and cannot belong to the group and run endlessly because their desire and passion are overflowing.
Building walls and pushing them away does absolutely no good for people like that.
Because they are people who will hold a hammer and smash whatever blocks their path.
So Sung Heejoo's hammering is inevitable.
Because it sucks to be looked down on for being a commoner even though she is a chaebol who has everything.
Grand prince Lee Ahn's hammering is also fated.
Because it is unfair that he cannot have anything despite being a king's son.

In the end, we will find ourselves rooting for them.
Because they look so much like us,
stretching their hands toward places they cannot reach and desiring what they cannot have.
And we will realize.
That our ancestors are prometheus who stole the fire and ran away, and pandora who ignored the warning and opened the box.

There is no such thing as an eternal taboo. there are only taboos that want to be eternal.

In the drama, Prince Lee Ahn is the late king’s only younger brother and the second son of the royal family, a man who has lived his life in concealment, bound by the innate limitations of his birth, never allowed to shine or raise his voice. Despite this, the public names him 'the most beloved royal in South Korea', showing absolute support for his striking looks, dignified presence, and overwhelming charisma.

After the deaths of his father and older brother, Prince Lee Ahn serves as regent for his young nephew, who suddenly ascends the throne, effectively leading the royal family from behind the scenes. At the same time, opposing forces seeking to keep him in check continue to grow stronger. Amid this tension, his quiet daily life is thrown into turmoil when he receives a proposal for a contract marriage from Sung Heejoo (played by IU), a chaebol heiress of commoner origins. Attention is focused on what new fate Prince Lee Ahn, who has long concealed the fire in his heart, will write for himself after meeting Sung Heejoo.

The newly released photos capture the image of Prince Lee Ahn, the royal beloved by the nation. Dressed in a neat suit, he is seen working and enjoying reading, his refined appearance immediately drawing the eye. Even in moments of leisure, his gaze never loses its brilliance, radiating the distinctive elegance unique to royalty.

In another image, influential figures bow their heads around Prince Ian as he stands at the centre of the palace, offering a glimpse of his commanding charisma that dominates all present. With both the royal family and the public paying close attention to his every step, anticipation is mounting over how the prince’s marriage, considered a major royal affair, will unfold.

Byeon Wooseok’s portrayal of Prince Lee Ahn, a man whose very existence causes a stir, is also highly anticipated. After redefining the 'devoted romantic lead' in Lovely Runner and shaking the hearts of fans worldwide, Byeon Wooseok is expected to mesmerise viewers once again by exuding an untouchable royal aura through his role as Prince Ian in Perfect Crown.

In the drama, IU plays the role of Sung Heejoo, the CEO of Castle Beauty. Born as the illegitimate child of the Castle Group, Sung Heejoo is a chaebol heiress who possesses a glamorous appearance, exceptional intelligence, a fierce competitive spirit, and management skills proven by winning the Top Entrepreneur Award. If there is one thing she lacks, it is her status as a commoner, which becomes a weakness in the (fictional) constitutional monarchy of South Korea, where the authority of the yangban (the elite class of the Joseon Dynasty) still holds immense power.

[…]

In the newly released photos, Sung Heejoo’s professional, at-work moments as the CEO of Castle Beauty — who never misses the top spot in any field — immediately draw attention. Inside a conference room, as Sung Heejoo passionately leads a meeting with executives, the charisma of a company owner can be felt in her gaze.

Another photo captures her at an event venue, where she stands in the spotlight under reporters’ cameras. As the CEO of Castle Beauty — someone whose every outfit and every meal becomes a hot topic — she marks her presence in everyone’s mind with her bold fashion. Attention is now focused on whether Sung Heejoo will also make her mark on the royal family.

Title Perfect Crown Spoiler
Perfect crown tells the story of two people unable to easily approach one another due to the walls of status and responsibility. Knowing that a single confession could shatter all balance, they instead choose to maintain a certain distance while yearning for each other. Within this narrative, IU shows restrained acting where she presses down and contains her deep sincerity behind a graceful and composed mask. And here Byeon Wooseok who showed the standard of pure love in lovely runner joins and adds strength. Though they suppress their feelings because of responsibility, their affectionate gaze that cannot be hidden is already raising high expectations. The two actors convey emotions through that fleeting moment when their eyes meet rather than through conversation. That hesitation of taking a step back when they want to approach each other makes the tension between the two even tighter. You'll experience a pang in your heart just by watching their chemistry, which is even more desperate because they can't reach each other.

So unfair for the actors.
They’ve got a big-budget production and they’re making bank. Also, this is a simultaneous broadcast, so the TV ratings will be more important to them anyway.

it is a MBC production, but D+ will be the exclusive ott platform. Today they put it together with their 2026 original series line-up to introduce it (seems like the first time they doing this to a unoriginal series)
