I think bl is not your thing, with the exception of Cherry Magic you gave low ratings to everyone on your list.
Thank you so much, this comment really meant a lot! I often feel I'm an outsider within the bl community when it comes to these things so it is so wonderful to hear I'm not alone~~ I also agree!! The start of my beautiful man really had me unsure about it too!

I've never really thought about it, but to an extent you may be right. I'm not someone who particularly enjoys watching lots of romance (smut of fluff), depending on my mood, but that has nothing to do with the gender of the couplings.
My ideal would be that more bl/gl gets incorporated within other plots, like crime or action. My close friend, who is an avid bl and gl watcher, has given me some recommendations (including not me and manner of death) but I have not gotten around to watching them yet!
About the low reviews, there are a few main reasons for that. The first is that I often don't review dramas until 2 months-2 years has passed since I watched them. By this point, I barely remember watching the plot which leads to the drama gaining a score around the middle. Another reason is that I don't tend to watch dramas which are mostly romance (regardless of whether this is straight or gay) a high ranking. Finally, my mum and I have a bit of a weird ranking system. This tends not to favour romance plots, and it a bit hard to explain.
However, I do really enjoy a lot of bls! Some of my favourites include: moonlight chicken, bad buddy, cherry magic, our dining table, love class, history 3: trapped, old fashion cupcake, semantic error, my unlucky can do nothing but kiss and until we meet again. If we included the chinese bromances, we would be here all day. I would also, despite everything I have said about not being a huge fan of romance, place my beautiful man into my all time favourite bls, so it really just depends on the drama, plot and my mood.
I know this will be unpopular to say, but to anyone looking at the comments trying to decide if they should watch it, there are a few things you should know. This is a miscommunication style drama with almost no resolution and only some plot. A lot revolves around the sexual life of the two leads, and has very questionable consent. It would likely not have bothered me too much (as I have enjoyed possessive or playing with power dynamics in the past), but the fact that one of the leads appears unable to understand their relationship, while the other has full financial, physical and emotional control is somewhat alarming.
I did enjoy some aspects, but I would not recommend watching if these themes mentioned above are a problem. The drama is well-acted and I did like the backstory, but it was frustrating that neither of the 2 main aims really got fulfilled, and I felt somewhat empty at the end.
I have felt even more conflicted when seeing how others feel about the drama as I have only heard praise of it, but it may be due to preference on taste.
Isn't it because of the law that seasons have to be released a year apart?
Ahh, I googled it but couldn't find an answer, but I thought I saw when watching a video on it that it was a year (hence why it has been rumoured to be shown again in July) but that is just based on my (not so brilliant) memory 😅
he did play a cameo in a drama back in 2021 with Juntae from Myst (cannot remember the name of the drama as it was not really available internationally) and he is now in Mask Girl!!

I have watched this drama last night after a long break in watching any drama. I haven't watched much BL drama…
Honestly I feel you. I am not a huge romance watcher but cherry magic is my biggest comfort drams. For bls which I also really enjoyed, bad buddy is wonderful and so special (it is a romeo and juliet bl adaptation but so much more than that and it is just wholesome) and old fashion cupcake (it's very short but so endearing). Both have more physical touch than cherry magic but also talk about self-learning (especially old fashion cupcake).
I have not finished it (I've been in a slump) but after the one-night stand, moonlight chicken (a thai bl) may also suit your taste! I've also heard a lot about our dining table and jack o'frost, but haven't gotten around to watching them yet~
I can also think of some non-bls like meet yourself and summer strike which have a similar vibe, but not sure if they'd interest you~
If you are looking at the comments and trying to decide whether or not this drama is worth it, watch it. It is lovely. I usually hate/skip romance and focus on the other plots within the dramas but this one I was hooked to. Communication was amazing, the story with her father had me guessing (to some extent) until the end and the more you learnt about the characters, the better it got. It is a light watch which leaves you feeling happy/complete.
Same. I'm only on Episode 4 so far, but this is one of the best K-dramas I've seen in a long time. Unless it suddenly…
I think I got frustrated with the backwards and forwards and how the decisions did not seem to always lead anywhere? I think Lee Rang and Lee Yeon's story did save these episodes, and I did love the ending. However, I don't really enjoy romance at all so those scenes were a bit lost on me (although I did end up falling hard for the second couple). I am really looking forward to the second season, the more trailers I see, the more excited I get.

I finished it a couple of days ago and it never really drops. I do love the drama and it is beautiful. The end is maybe slightly dragged out but leaves you with a complete feeling... yet for some reason (and I think I know why, but don't want to give spoilers) I don't think I'd give it full marks.
It is an amazing drama though and I absolutely love it and I think the reviews were way too critical
i dont get it. everyone been praising this but the front reviews are either 6-8 lmao. is it because of the ending?…
I was about to comment that the reviews were so unfair. It's been on my to watch list since it came out and everyone who i know who has seen it has loved it. My mum is REALLY picky with dramas and she has been hooked since the start (currently on ep14). I feel like a lot of these reviews are overly critical and i don't get why
To anyone who starts the drama and then doubts it, JUST KEEP GOING. It starts to seriously pick up after about 3 episodes. The tone does change, it just takes time to understand who everyone is and their personalities. The drama is phenomenal
I'll never understand why the FL's character is despised on here - sure she has some moments that make you roll…
The reason why I disliked the female lead was I found that she was manipulative. Yes the younger brother has done huge wrong but when there was no evidence and he was giving up on crime, was it necessary for her to stick her nose in and tell him she will catch him until the very end? She made the happy ending seem impossible and there was no real reason for her to target him. I get why she wanted to catch Joonyoung but it just felt pushed. She was so in love with the older brother but also had no plans to help them. Her impulsiveness was not unexpected but did drive me mad. It was important that she was reckless but it felt unnecessary at times and really just made it so much more difficult for the brothers to find that happy end they were hoping for.
The truth is, as someone who had wanted to commit murder at one point and wanted to be part of Hyun's life so bad, she should have respected that the younger brother probably really had no choice and should have at least discussed their future together rather than pushing the younger brother into believing he had no options other to try to kill Joonyoung...
I recommend this big time. The love triangles exist but are cute. If you watch this drama I advise you to watch it with a sense of humour. It is incredibly predictable and contains every cliche, however it left me pleasently surprised with the twist at the end. I loved every episode and it was a fun watch. Contrary to expectations, it is in my top 5 dramas. Would recommend.
