I LOVE THIS SO MUCH !!! def a 9.5/10 for this genre πβ€οΈ the ending was wrapped up nicely and gave me almost everything I wanted to see. I'll miss them and how much of a simp cha min is π€£ this one's perfect if you like silly SILLY romcoms! also, jae rim looked amazing with those glasses β€οΈ
Yeah, that part really didn't make any sense to me-- especially because I expected a lot more from the mountain…
I agree! There could've been a better reason why their bloodline got that curse π It's also unfair how the mountain spirit didn't get punished for doing all of that.
I'm glad the ratings are at 7.9 now! It deserves more though since it's actually serving what it's marketed to be, an over-the-top romcom. If you're not into that, you should give this drama a pass and watch something that suits your liking rather than rating this low.
What I love about this show is the leads have chemistry and there are A LOT of cute scenes. The kisses were great too! What I don't like about it though is that the whole betrayal backstory was just the mountain spirit's misunderstanding like ??? π and he even cursed Maksoon's whole bloodline just because of that. He's a mountain spirit but can't even protect his lover from the ones wanting to kill her. Also, he decided to make his revenge even worse such as erasing memories of people who literally know NOTHING about their past lives ??? π Hae Na and Seo Won were literally just living their lives as themselves. Give them a break! π
I love how this is a feel-good drama that is heavy on comedy but also has some serious scenes that effectively explain the background of the main characters. Episodes 7-8 were definitely on the "serious" side (it is so far as serious as it can get! π€£) and showed the vulnerable side of Jae Rim and Cha Min. We finally know why he always brings an umbrella with him! π€£
The bullies were summoned by the police for questioning but they were also quickly released and continued going to school as per usual. Jaei was kicked out of her house and went to her mom's house; she and Rian had a cool off. The principal was replaced with another one. The one who killed Inhan was the teacher who had a relationship with Woojin. Out of panic, she ran over Inhan with a car because he caught her making out with Woojin.

Overall, I would rate this show a 6/10. The cast was great (especially hyewon β€οΈ), and the budget clearly paid off with impressive sets and props. However, it was funny how the school was so dark, as if electricity didn't exist π I understand they wanted to portray it as a dystopian place like Rian's home, which was also very dark, but it seemed silly to me. How could they even see what they're reading with such dim lights? Additionally, the repeated scenes of Jaei and Rian walking their dog on the beach felt excessive.
Now, for the three main characters:
Kang Ha: What the actual hell π He was supposed to be a smart kid, but nothing in the show proved it. He contributed nothing to the revenge plot because it was all the principal's son's doing. During his whole stay in Jooshin, he didn't even manage to gather any evidence on his own. It seemed like he forgot about everything the moment he fell in love with Jaei. I don't even understand how and why he fell for her when it is obvious that Jaei contributed to the death of his brother. He was all talk, no action. Also, how did he instantly figure out that the blackmailer was the principal's son when he couldn't even find evidence against the bullies and about his brother's death? That part was so unrealistic. It also annoyed me when he told the principal's son that they should just call out the wrongdoings in Jooshin and not expose the bullies. His brother literally died because of them and he went to Jooshin for revenge. Why was he acting righteous all of a sudden?
Jaei: I didn't know she was Hera's best friend until she said it. The way she bossed Hera around is not how you treat your best friend. I hated the part in episode 6 where she said, "The things I didn't know because no one told me, like what I was doing wrong. I wish I would've known sooner," because why would anyone need to tell you that ignoring bullying is bad? π She was even the top student, so she can't be dumb. Also, Inhan was apparently her friend, and she could've saved him if she had just told Rian to stop bullying him. It was really shameless of her to ask Kang Ha to not expose Rian, saying he's not bad and all. I was also confused when she told Kang Ha that what she said about her not having feelings for him at some point was a lie because I remember her telling Woojin that there was no time she lost feelings for Rian. Does that mean at some point she had feelings for both Rian and Kang Ha? π€
Rian: He has to be the most shallow character of all. He instigated Inhan's bullying just because Inhan became Jaei's friend? π I don't even understand the reasoning behind it. After Inhan's death, he didn't show any remorse and just did the same to Kang Ha, except this time, Kang Ha repeatedly provoked him. In episode 6, if I recall correctly, he even got upset when Jaei told him to apologize to Kang Ha for taking part in the bullying and Inhan's death, saying that she was ruining their nice dinner. Like, okay, you took part in a person's death, but let's not ruin your dinner with Jaei because that's bad! When he finally said he would apologize, he just did it so Jaei wouldn't go to New York. He never really saw the need to apologize for taking part in someone's death. Even in the last episode, while apologizing to Kang Ha for everything he did, he still said he wasn't directly responsible for Inhan's death. Like, wow, what a sincere apology!
The revenge plot, if you can even call it "revenge," was so unsatisfying.
In episode 5, why is the gangster character suddenly intimidated by the dad when he says he's from Pohang and…
I'm assuming it's because those places were known to have gangs back then, so he probably thought Juwon is an active gang member since he's from Guryongpo.
The actor behind Sunho surely looks good and acts great, but his character in Cheer Up isn't someone you'd want to consider as a possible lover irl. Falling out of love is understandable, but breaking up because you're bored isn't. I understand why Haeyi never considered Sunho as her potential bf. It's because she saw how he dumped his gf because he got bored. Clearly, what happened with the first girl may also happen to Haeyi if she ever gets into a relationship with Sunho. Sunho may meet another woman that's more interesting than Haeyi, then he would break up with Haeyi for the reason of being "bored." Since the start of the drama, Haeyi was introduced as a rational person which further explains why there are slim chances of her falling in love with Sunho. She also mentioned how she likes a person who is realistic in life (if I remember correctly), but Sunho was shown to live in his bubble of privilege when he said that being poor is not bad. Anyway, as for Jungwoo, I hope we get to see him more with Haeyi since heβs obviously the one marketed to end up with her. I also feel like we still don't know him much aside from how he is as a leader. Jungwoo really lacks scenes outside of the cheering squad and investigation thing. Iβm also wondering why the βrepeatβ issue was never reported to the police; Jungwoo and Yoomin are just investigating it themselves.
How is the romance in this?? Is there a lot or is it slight? Do any couples actually form? π§πΎββοΈ
The whole show focuses on romance and the inner struggles of some leads. Bomi's and Jinyoung's love story is sweet and slow burn, whereas Hamin's and Somang's was bittersweet and fast-paced. There are 3 couples in the story, but the drama only unfolds the story of the first and second couple (the leads). The third couple is irrelevant to the story as they are just extras (their screen time as a couple was about 15 seconds only).
can someone please spoil me on Hamin, im feeling so tense down about it, i might have a bit of an easier time…
Based on the spoilers I've read, Hamin committed s because of feeling pressured by his mom. In the fourth episode, there was also a scene where Hamin's mom slapped him and ripped his painting, which was his only hobby during that time. From what I understood, all he was allowed to do was study, so he felt suffocated. Somang feels guilty because she failed to pick up the signs Hamin showed her. For Hamin, Somang was his only friend and last hope.
Why are people jumping to conclusion and condemning JY for no reason? For one, it's a fact TY's action is why…
Hmm, I'd have to disagree with your statement that "Taeyang caused Junyoung to lose everything, so she deserves the blame." Junyoung could've said no to going out of the dorm, drinking beer, and snowboarding, but she never said so. Since she's made a choice for herself, she must also be accountable for whatever happened. It's not like Taeyang injured her on purpose. What happened was an accident. Now, I get how Junyoung may feel bitter as she lost her career, but I don't find it reasonable to hate on Taeyang based on the clip that we've seen from the preview. I feel like Junyoung regrets agreeing to Taeyang's snowboarding invitation back then. However, she still can't accept that she's responsible for what happened, so she diverts her hatred or negative feelings to Taeyang.
